Unable to filter albums in Roon ARC

Sorry this didn’t change anything, I still have the same issue

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

We’ll have to reproduce this internally using the copy of your DB you supplied to know the exact underlying issue. Once we have a better grasp of what’s wrong we’ll report back with next steps or workarounds.

Hello, have you been able to identify the cause of the issue ?
Thanks

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

We’ve not been able to reproduce this issue so far - to expedite things, we might require an additional reproduction on your end to illuminate the Tag syncing in logging.

With the “Classical” tag still created in Roon, please try uninstalling and reinstalling the ARC app completely. This will have the consequence of deleting local downloads, which you’ll then have to redownload to ARC. However, it may resolve the issue acutely, and will otherwise equip our developers to resolve the issue in an upcoming build.

Thank you for your patience thus far. We hope to resolve this tag discrepancy as soon as possible.

Thanks for your reply.
Do you see the “classical” tag on the files i sent to you ? I just want to make sure that it is correctly done on Roon before i delete the ARC app and re-install it (which by the way i’ve done already unsuccessfully so i’m not sure this will change much)
Thanks

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan ,

Tags (such as your “Classical” tag) are saved in the Roon database, so the files themselves wouldn’t have the tag applied to it. Please do let us know if the ARC reinstall triggers any change in behavior, thanks!

Hi, I’m a bit lost I must say as with Roon I can focus on “classical” on my desktop and “classique” on my iPhone. If this tag doesn’t come from the files what decided whether an album is “classical” or not ? Anyway, I did try to re-install ARC entirely and the problem remains exactly the same

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

Let’s clarify a few details and ensure that we’re on the same page here.

First, tags are Profile-specific. We need to know if you, at any point, created a tag called “Conductor” in Roon before you had created the current “Classical” tag. This might have been in a profile you’ve since deleted in Roon.

Second, let’s consider how ARC and Roon sync. ARC creates a “light” version of your database on the phone, including any tags that might have been applied at the database level in Roon. What we’re investigating here is why a certain tag would populate in Roon but not in ARC or vice versa even though the databases should match one another, including any tags. One possibility is the timing - if ARC hasn’t synced properly since you created the “Classical” tag, and ARC instead has a database synced that has different tags, then you could find yourself in this dilemma. The reinstall should have resolved this, which is why we ask above if you now still see the “Conductor” tag in ARC.

If we’re talking strictly about local files, then this would depend on whether you imported the files with tags that were created in another software - since Roon 1.3, this means adding RoonAlbumTag or RoonFileTag to a file directly in another software and importing to Roon. Otherwise, tags live at the database level, and aren’t associated with the files. We unfortunately can’t reproduce with the files alone, which is why we requested the full database in combination.

Our efforts to reproduce even with the database, however, have so far failed. We’ve attempted to sync an ARC library to this database to see if the “Classical” tag fails to carry over, and if the ‘Conductor’ tag was instead visible initially in ARC. Neither was the case, and tags synced normally between Roon and ARC.

Let’s revisit your initial screenshot here. The origin of the “Conductor” tag is unclear, but at that time, you had not yet created the “Classical” tag. Having created the “Classical” tag now, you’re not seeing it sync - but is the “Conductor” tag still visible in ARC under focus?

Many thanks for the lengthy answer. To help clarify :

  1. I’m not sure if I ever created a tag called “conductor” in Roon but that’s possible
  2. I have re-installed ARC and i still see the same “Conductor” tag and only this one
  3. All my files have tags that are created under JRiver MediaCenter before they are imported in Roon. I’m not sure if Roon imports the tags with the files but in the Roon settings i’ve selected “chose file” rather than “chose Roon” for most tags
  4. Yes this is correct

I hope this helps and we can move forward. I can add that since i’ve re-installed ARC, the sorting of albums by “Date” or “Date added” is a mess, the sorting has nothing to do with the real dates while “date” is coherent on Roon (and “date added” is not as i have had to change my whole database once already for another issue)
Thanks

Thank you @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan!

Are you able to check JRiver for any existing ‘Conductor’ tags that may have been applied?

In the meantime, we have a ticket in with our development team to take a closer look into things. We’ll follow up once they’re able to investigate further. Thank you for your continued patience and cooperation so far!

Yes, i confirm that the “conductor” tag exists on JRiver. As well as several others (including “genre”)

Hi @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

Thanks for letting us know. We’ve added this information to the ticket for your case. We really appreciate your continued patience as we work through it.

Thanks. I hope we find a solution soon, and i dont’ quite understand why Roon can’t simply take the tags that are attached to the files and use them to sort the library.

Hey @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan,

If you could, please upload a few copies of tracks that have both conductor tag as well as classical tag for our team to attempt another reproduction of the issue. Upload link:

https://workdrive.zohoexternal.com/collection/nqcgjac23027d90a441bda2c314de49d7958a/external

If you temporarily remove the conductor tag in JRiver, and add it in Roon to the same tracks, do you still see an issue?

Done, i’ve uploaded 2 files

Thanks for sending those over @Arnaud_de_Fontgallan - our team will take a closer look and follow up once they’re able to analyze further.
