Describe the issue

When I start Roon I receive the message "There was an issue loading your library". I used the "Restore a backup" option. Roon worked correctly for a few hours and then the error returned. I've completed this process twice. Also, I only have 25K songs and my dB is over 25GB. Is that a sign of database corruption?

Describe your network setup

My network is Roon Rock on a NUC, 1Gb Meraki MS210 switch. Various Roon bridges, Linux, WIN and Android.

Sounds to me like you boot SSD is dying. If this is new and untried (for you) hardware, then it might also me a faulty RAM module. See also the help article below:

Hi @James_Hunton,
Thanks for reaching out to us about this issue. Are you able to access the Web Admin page for your ROCK? Is anything showing as red?

The console shows no red. The problem is intermittent.

Hello @James_Hunton ,

I activated diagnostics mode for your account and looking over the logs, it looks like you are getting an out-of-memory and too many files open errors causing the database issues. You have a fairly large library, it is possible that your ROCK is running out RAM or there is an issue with the current RAM installed. RAM is fairly inexpensive these days, so I would try to add some more and if you still have issues, you can test the installed RAM with MemTest86 or swap out the previous RAM with the new one to rule out possible failing RAM.

I ordered new RAM that will double it from 16GB to 32GB. Thanks.

In the Roon App it shows that I have 17,970 albums. That is not correct. I would be surprised if I have 2,000 albums. Is there a way to force the system to re-read the albums?

Hi @James_Hunton,

Is this with the additional RAM added to the device? We’re seeing multiple machines running ROCK, can you provide more specific information about which machine you’re planning on using for your Roon Server?

If you could, please share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Storage

Thanks!

My problem continues. I replaced my ROCK hardware with a better NUC. It has 32GB RAM. I restored my database from a backup and everything seems good for a few weeks. Now the problem has returned. I’ve restored from a few different recent database backups via the GUI. Is there anyway to diagnose this problem via the ROCK log files?

When I restored the database I used the “Restore Database” button on the “can’t load your library” error page. Is there a better method for restoring the database?

Hey @James_Hunton,

We’re not seeing any database-related errors from the recent diagnostic from your Roon Server, when specifically did you update?

We’re seeing an additional OOM failure, but that was back on the 22nd:

Sep 22 user.notice roonserver/run:  ---> System.OutOfMemoryException: Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.

How is the NUC connected to your network? We did see a few tracks fail analysis due to network connections, as well as a few potentially corrupt files.

Can you get a direct ethernet connection setup and see if you continue to run into database issues?

If you navigate to Roon Settings>Library>Skipped Files, do you see any skipped files?
