I am trying to change the roon core. I am currently using Mac as core but I want to use the core inside the qnap NAS. When I select it shows me the login page and I select my username, but it returns to the login page and I can't log in. If I select Mac as core then it lets me log in. How can I fix this? In the past I have never had a problem using the Qnap NAS as core
Content blockers are sometimes responsible for login loops - please try a different browser or temporarily disable adblock.
Next, try fully logging out of your Roon account in the accounts page: https://account.roon.app/en/login, and then try again.
I’d also verify that any Roon processes are excepted in QuFirewall on the QNAP device.
The problem is not solved.
I have done the following steps:
I turned off the Mac so that it is no longer visible as a core
I turned on the Qnap
I installed the Roon app on a Windows PC
I logged out of my account via Edge which does not have any ad blocker
when I open the Roon app it sees only the Qnap as an available core and asks me if I want to use that as a core or use the PC
I select the Qnap but when I enter the username it sends me into a loop again
It seems that my profile is permanently associated with the Mac core even if the Mac is turned off. Can you remotely do some kind of reset of my profile or give me some test credentials to understand if the problem is related to the account or to another type of problem. In the past with an old Imac I could always change the core between Mac and Qnap.
Can you be more specific about where the looping is taking place?
Are you able to access the web browser window, input your credentials, and be brought back to your Roon app? Is that where the loop occurs?
This isn’t possible, so no need to worry here. If you’re able to select the Qnap as your Roon Server, you’re in good shape!
Can you try using a different browser other than Microsoft edge?
I’d also temporarily disable your windows firewall as well, and see if that makes a difference.
If none of the above help, could you please reproduce the loop, take note of the date and time, share that info here along with a set of Roon Server logs from the Qnap? You can use the directions found here and send over a set of Roon Sever logs to our File Uploader.
I can access the web browser window, it asks me to choose an account (it does not let me enter the password) and at this point the message “Redirecting, please wait…
If this doesn’t continue after a few seconds,
click here to continue” appears in the browser and I am redirected to the Roon app but it does not let me enter and asks me to log in again; this is where it goes in a loop.
This happens with an Imac with both Chrome and Safari and on a Windows PC with Chrome and Edge. The problem does not seem to be with the Operating System or the browser.
Now I send the log files of both the Qnap server and the Imac server. I attempt to access the Qnap server on August 11, 2024 at 6:21 PM (local time in Italy). I will try to access the Qnap server twice in sequence after which I access the Imac server again.
It’s not clear that you’ve followed my original advice, which includes the first and second most common solutions for the login loop you’re describing above.
Disable any adblockers or content blockers in the browser you’re using with Roon Remote.
The problem is that the address to which you are re-directed after signing in, whether in Roon or in a browser, is blocked by content blockers or adblockers that are installed in your environment.
Please also add RoonGoer as an exception the QuFirewall and in the firewalls for any Roon Remotes.
Another culprit could be the DNS server assigned in your router, which is responsible for resolving the address of the login forward. In your router settings, please verify whether the DNS server has been assigned by the ISP, or is a known, reliable server like Cloudflare DNS, Quad9 or Google DNS.
I’ve tried them all.
I tried with two different operating systems (MacOs and Windows) and 4 different browsers, I deactivated the firewall on the router, on the Mac and on the PC, I don’t have adblock on either the operating systems or the browsers.
At this point there is certainly some block that comes from the parameters of the internet provider’s modem/router.
I’ll try to understand better, thanks anyway for the assistance.
Thanks for your patience. We’ve taken a deeper dive into diagnostic logging and there’s evidence to corroborate that the QNAP doesn’t have consistent internet access under the current topology/settings.
We can see that RoonServer intermittently loses connection to upstream servers (including those unrelated to login) due to network unreachability errors. Update, time checker, and Audeze preset update servers, for instance, all failed concurrently with a login attempt.
If you have temporarily migrated to another RoonServer, does the login still fail? How does the network setup differ between the current RoonServer and the QNAP?
Honestly, I don’t have enough knowledge about networking systems to understand where the problem is located. I was previously using an older Mac with an older version of Roon server on the Qnap and had no problems. I also had another internet provider. For a long time I didn’t use Qnap because the old Mac didn’t support the current release of Qnap’s Roon server. I hope to resolve this in the future, for now I continue to use Roon server on the Mac.
Thanks anyway
Last hour:
I tried something that seemed useless but it worked.
The Qnap has four ethernet cards, I have always used card number 2, lately I was using card number 1. I connected card number 2 again and it works. Card number 2 was the default gateway.
That’s all
