Recently, we’ve received several reports from Norton Antivirus users that RoonAppliance.exe is being falsely flagged as a virus and moved to quarantine. This is a false positive.
Please follow the steps below to check the file and prevent future false detections:
Open Norton.
Go to Security > History.
In the Security History window, look for entries related to RoonAppliance.exe.
Select the entry, click More Options or View Details.
Choose Restore, then click Yes to confirm.
When prompted, select the option to exclude this file from future scans.
BearFNF - Following your recommendation, I temporarily disabled my Norton Firewall and it’s still doesn’t work, I’m getting the same error message! I also checked Windows 11 Firewall setup based on the HC entry you sent me and Norton took over all the setting from Windows on this.
Vadim - I already uninstalled and then reinstalled Roon on my PC, so I can’t restore the quarantined files, and the RAATServer & Roon were already allowed on my Norton Firewall when I reinstalled the software.
Thank you for your message. Can you please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader? Once logs have been uploaded, please let us know so that we can check the server for your files, thanks!
Please note that a firewall is a network protection feature and does not affect local files directly. We recommend fully disabling Norton temporarily or adding the entire Roon folder to Norton’s exclusion list to prevent further interference.
Once you’ve done this, please follow the steps below to completely uninstall and reinstall Roon:
Full Uninstall and Reinstall Instructions
1. Uninstall the Roon Application
Open Control Panel > Programs > Programs and Features.
Locate Roon, right-click, and select Uninstall.
2. Delete Roon-Related Folders
This will erase your Roon database and settings. Please ensure you have a backup if needed.
After you uninstalled Roon, navigate to C:\Users\[*Your username*]\AppData\Local and delete all Roon folders:
RAATServer
Roon
RoonGoer
RoonServer
Press Win + R, type %localappdata%, and press Enter to access the Local folder.
Then do the same with %appdata% for the Roaming folder.
3. Restart Your PC
This ensures all file handles are released.
After a fresh install (download here), restore your recently saved backup to load your prior library settings.
