Unable to see "This PC" soundcards on Windows 10 Roon Remote (ref#GBYQQ0)

What’s happening?

I'm having trouble playing music

What best describes your playback issue?

Other

I have a Windows 11 Roon Server, when i connecting
from internet with a Windows 10 Roon Remote, I can´t see the "This PC" soundcards in Roon Remote.
I did the following without results:
-I uninstalled and reinstalled Roon Server
-I updated Roon to the latest version on both PCs
-I updated the sound card driver on Windows 10 PC Roon Remote (Sound Blaster X-Fi Pro)

Is the Zone set to ‘Private’ in the device settings for the zone?

If the zone is set to ‘Private’, then it will not be useable from Roon or Roon Remote running on another device.

I may have misinterpreted your question.

If you meant the endpoints on the Windows 10 machine (not the server), then the above does not apply.

When you say you can’t see the ‘This PC’ devices, do you mean in ‘Roon->Settings->Audio’, or do you mean the in the zone selection?

If I were you I would also be looking at the firewall settings on both the Server machine and the Windows 10 machine:

I mean in ‘Roon->Settings->Audio"

I already added the exceptions in the Windows 11 Roon Server Firewall and in the Windows 10 Roon Remote client and the problem continues.

How? Please note that VPNs are not supported. If you use a VPN then this thread belongs into the Tinkering category of the forum. There you can find threads from other users that already dealt with VPN and Roon sharing their experience and recipes for working setups.

PS: The behavior you describe is typical for a non-working (with Roon) VPN setup.

I’m assuming that this is from the Roon copy running on the Windows 10 machine and the Windows 10 Machine is connected to the Roon Server (Windows 11 machine).

Do both machines have the network set to ‘private’.

(GrapeVine is the SSID of the WiFi network in my house - You would select the network your are using).

Roon requires a private network.

OK. Good. And the exceptions are added for ‘Private’ networks?

I am not using VPN.

Which doesn’t answer the question how you do it though. For Roon to work properly, all the devices need to be in the same network. Trying to use Roon from another, routed network usually leads to the issue you described (GUI works but no remote playback possible, you can of course start playback over the remote GUI on a local zone back at home).

Note: All setups where the devices aren’t in the same network are unsupported.

They were in Public. I changed them to private on both PCs but the problem persists

Okay. So how can I use Roon on my PC that is in my office? (Roon Remote Windows 10) If I want to configure it as a Roon Server I receive the message that my subscription allows only one server.
Should I change my subscription?

You just install Roon on it - it will act as a Roon Remote and Roon Endpoint to the Roon Server on your Windows 11 PC.

@enrique, when you state

Is your office a remote location or another room in your home? If it’s in another location outside your home, you will not be able to use Roon in your remote location (your office) because as @BlackJack notes, all Roon devices (Roon Server, Roon Remotes, Roon endpoints) need to be on the same network, VPN connections are not supported.

If your office is located in your home, you can install Roon and use it as a Roon Remote to connect to your Roon Server as @Geoff_Coupe notes. However, you may run into problems using Roon on it if your Windows 10 PC requires a VPN connection to somewhere outside your home.

Hi @enrique,
Are you still having issues playing to the soundcard on your Windows 10?
