For a while now the experience with Roon is unusable.
The interface Will get unresponsive and not able to do anything. It doesent react at all on commands.
A reboot of roon core can get it up and working but it always gets back. I suspect it is after the last couple of updates. The problem was before The latest but have t been solved.
It is not my Android iPhone that is the problem Because It doesent matter if i use my Ipad or a computer.
I have never had any problem for several years with my roon core so it is not a hardware problem either.
What to do?
And is there more people that is havning this experience.
Two things you might try:
Go to “Settings/Library” and click “Clean up library”.
And then go to “Settings/setup” and click “Clear Cache” unde the Clear image Cache section.
Might help?
Also, when was the last time the server was restarted?
Last ditch, if no one else has any ideas, would be to do a Backup of the Roon database (Settings/Backups). and then uninstall and then reinstall Roon? Then restore the backup.
Also work checking your Windows firewall exceptions are in place. Some needed to add the exceptions following recent Roon/Windows updates. Not sure why.
Lastly, your Ubiquiti network, are we talking Unifi? Can you explain how it’s all configured and what’s connected where and how.
Sounds like you might be experiencing the same remote issues as many of us have at the moment. When it happens is it locking up or does it still attempt to do things but nothing happens? You loose artwork and then it might get stuck on a page when you goto home and you get the Roon logo ?
There are several threads covering this behaviour but people seem to always blame your kit as it’s easier. Roons investigating this but not got anywhere at all.
I had this issue today, I’d added a Qobuz album to my library within Roon, then got the message about waiting for the core, playback paused and I noticed the album I’d tried to add hadn’t been added to the library.
SSH into my Linux NUC running Debian, ran HTOP and one CPU core on Roon process was spiking at 100% every time I tried to re add the album to the library. It would spike a few times then drop back to normal and playback would begin.
I rebooted the NUC, I wanted to do a system update anyway, when core came back up it was fine and I was able to add the release to the library.
Been ok since.
Memory use was normal throughout.
Right now I’m listening, using 10 band PEQ, crossfeed, CPU spikes very briefly at 15% when a new track starts, then drops to 2% AVG during playback I’d say.
Memory usage is 3gb, I have 7.39gb (8gb) installed.
I’ve not seen this pausing before which for me seemed to be the issue of the library not updating.
It seems to happen when ju go out from the app and back again. Or lock the screen same thing
The track keeps playing byt the app is inresponsive.
It changes track name when a new is started but time ar stans still and nothing happens when trying to paus, lower volume, stop etc…
Yep that’s the same. If you can add your comments tj the 2nd thread I posted as that’s had Roon respond so the more we get to show this isn’t so isolated the better.
“Are we referring to Roon Remotes not being responsive. Music plays but not controll able”
That is what happening.
Nothing wrong with my network. It has been the same longer than the roon problems. Oh i switchen the network card in the Windows computer that The roon core is running on. But that cannot be the problem Here.
But it is this unifi equipment that The most used Roon client is connected to.
I run a similar network. Synology NAS (stores all music file) connected to a 10Gb aggregation switch, Mac mini M2Pro connected to same switch running Roon core and Plex. Clients are all connected through a 24 port UniFi switch which is uplinked at 10Gb to the aggregation switch. Only my remote controller (iPad) is on a wifi connection, all end points are hard wired.
One change I made today was disabling wifi on the Mac Mini, for some reason Apple can’t do networking and I had instances wheee the Mac would connect shares through wifi instead of the 10Gb Ethernet connection. I’ll see if that helps.
It’s not related to our specific network setups . Others don’t have UniFi or managed systems at all but happens the same. Some have them and don’t seem to get it.
We don’t know what the common denominator may be at this stage. My config is Synology NAS storage, Mac M2Pro core with iPad controller. Maybe it’s the NAS - Mac setup, maybe it’s the 10Gb connectivity, who knows? I’m just outlining the config to see if there’s some odd common setup causing the problem.
I’ve now disabled wifi on my Mac and I haven’t had the issue since but I’ll wait and see. Maybe it’s iPad wifi controller to wifi core on Mac?
This has been going on since two versions sgo and not before. My core is fully wired and use Rock, wireless only involves remotes and had it occur on Windows and iOS remotes (more commonly) . Others users have pretty basic WiFi setup for remotes nothing clever no managed switch’s not even mesh and have same issues, others have mesh systems have issues. It happens across a broad range of setups. This is their code and something changed in this regard and it happens on all operating systems.
This is a new issue for me or at least I haven’t noticed in the past, a bit unlikely. In my case there have been a few updates over the past week or so, I think a Roon update, an iPadOS update and a Mac OSX update. I also think my MacOS update restarted the wireless service which I’ve now turned off again. I’ll try it for a few days and see if it’s gone away with wireless turned off.
Have any of you enabled Jumbo frames on the unifi and your ethernet devices? It might help?
(remember that, if you have or are going to, you need to enable it on “EVERY” device or there could be issues) Yes, it may only be a marginal difference, but any little bit helps.
No never used it nor should we need to in a domestic environment. And as been said the same issue affects users of completely different network gear some of very basic stuff so let’s leave all this guess work out of it please it will end up causing more issues. Jumbo frames should only be used in an environment where all devices are capable of utilising them and can be configured for the same MTU sizes or it will degrade performance not enhance it.
Been fine all day for me been playing music since 1pm then it’s started to just stop working each time phone screen is off for a little bit. So annoying as it’s now everytime and have to kill it and restart it.
Thanks for the update! Could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time and name of the track playing when the issue occurs?
Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.
If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs from the issue remote to our File Uploader.
