Huh, good point, I hadn’t thought of that.
These are some of the things I’ve been researching and chasing down.
When it comes to minimum requirements it feels like even Roon has been left behind a bit. Another issue I’m trying to deal with is having to bump requirements for the Roon Remote android app. Google is requiring 16KB page size which means that we have to do a significant update to at least net9.0 at a minimum in order to continue shipping the app. I’m in the process on updating it to net10.0 which I’m hoping will bring some good perf improvements there as well. (https://developer.android.com/guide/practices/page-sizes) We are already passed the original deadline.
I have a Grandinote Volta dac that has a streaming board running Debian GNU/Linux 9 (stretch). Its not going to be possible to update GLIBC, will it continue to run OK as an endpoint? Current Roonbridge is version 2.6.
Don’t think so based on this from further up in this thread - assuming that Bridge is included in “the entire package”:
My venerable late-2013 iMac is among those which will be unable to accommodate the forthcoming Roon Update since it can’t be updated beyond Catalina (currently running 10.15.8). I’ve known this day was coming since I first started using Roon almost five years ago, but here it is.
Because my Roon subscription is renewing this week my initial reaction was to simply cancel… on second thought I decided to go month to month, disable automatic updates for both server and remote and seek some advice about the best way to proceed.
I am not looking to replace my iMac for everyday desktop use. I saw some discussion about the Macbook Neo but with 256 or 512GB internal storage I’m sure I’d need an external drive and meh. My Roon settings indicate about 16k tracks in storage. I have plenty more CDs available to be ripped.
The Nucleus One seems like a reasonable alternative (presumably with the built-in 2TB SSD), and I determined that I probably have a likely place to put it, connected to my FIOS router with a 30 foot Ethernet cable. One thing I’m wondering is… will I have to use one of my moblie devices to control playback? I’m an old guy and a creature of habit… I could get used to this, I suppose. ![]()
I am by no means a ‘power user’ but the idea of giving up on Roon makes me very sad… as frustrating as it can be to wrangle with there’s nothing quite like it in terms of managing my streaming services, personal library, internet stations, playlists and what have you.
I’d appreciate any insight or experiences others might share. My technical prowess is not non-existent, but pretty rudimentary, so complicated work-arounds are likely a non-starter.
Thanks.
I have moved Roon Bridge to net10.0, but that change isn’t in 2.65 EA. At the earliest, it’ll be in the release after next.
It should be possible to update your iMac unofficially with
It‘s not complicated and the late-2013 iMac is on the compatibility list - at least to macOS 12 Monterey (which is sufficient for the upcoming Roon update), and maybe even to Ventura/Sequoia:
For Ventura-Sequoia support, note the link to Legacy Metal (macOS 14+) in the table.
Thanks… I’ll give it a more detailed look tomorrow. All quite new to me.
Initial reaction is that for me this is probably going to fall into the “complicated work around” category… and even if it’s not all THAT complicated I’d have a nervous breakdown waiting for everything to install.
I’m sure it’s a perfect solution for others, though. Sincere thanks.
It’s really just:
- Download the installer app
- Start the installer app, insert USB stick into Mac, click Create macOS Installer and choose the USB stick
- Start another app and click button to choose what you want to do (i.e., Build and Install OpenCore)
- Reboot Mac and start from the inserted USB stick
The instructions are step by step with pictures, it’s not more difficult than installing Roon ROCK (I’d say less difficult) and everyone managed that.
But up to you, a Nucleus One or new Mac Mini is also nice ![]()
Can my bridge on the streaming board stay as is and still work with the server being updated ?
I have a no longer supported Auralic Aries G2 that won’t be getting any bridge updates. How are hardware devices such as these affected?
The device is Roon Ready, not using Bridge. Roon Ready doesn’t expect firmware updates on the endpoint to happen / be possible.
I believe so but I’ll dig into this a bit more because I feel like the answer isn’t a simple yes or no. I’m more worried about it auto-updating. If it slips my mind please reach out and bug/remind me to look into this.
As far as I can tell it wont auto update it looks to be a manual process, so fingers crossed.
looks like my M2 Mini is going to be more underutilized than it already is.
A post was split to a new topic: Need to start moving away from having customers at close to IT support level people
?? The M2 is not affected by this at all
Depends on your update settings
Innuos confirmed it is good to go and will stay that way.
