USB and Bluetooth audio output issues on Windows PC with Roon (ref#P0W4EF)

Describe the issue

My PC. A windows PC will not output to any connected USB speaker, or my Bluetooth heads. Roon tries to play but skips all music, all tracks. My headphones are connected [I can hear audio with other software]. The zones affected are those connected to my office PC. I have tried reinstalling Roon control software, restarting my PC etc. Nothing works. Yet the same outputs work on other software. And yes the outputs are setup.

Describe your network setup

Direct connection to Orbi.

From the top of my head:

  • Check the firewall settings.
  • Check if you can set the effected zones to 5.1 or 7.1 and if doing so makes a difference.
  • Network issue. Is your office PC in the same network as your Roon Server?

Also: Did you already try the good old “turn it off, then turn it on again” troubleshooting step?

Hey @grizaudio,

Thanks for writing in!

Do you have any DSP active when this issue occurs?

Can you double check there are not configuration conflicts occurring for your system output zone?

What happens if you disable Exclusive mode? Navigate to Settings > Audio in Roon.

  • Locate your “System Output” and click on the gear icon next to it to access device settings.
  • Under the Advanced section, disable unnecessary upsampling or bit-depth conversion settings. Try leaving the “Exclusive Mode” off for system testing.

Last, can you confirm the system audio drivers are up to date?

We’ll be on standby for your reply!

The issue arises when using the PC Mixer in lieu of the Logitech speakers on my desktop directly.
If I use the direct audio device, its fine.

Hey @grizaudio ,

I’ve activated diagnostics and it looks like the issue is happening with both your System Output and your WH-100XM5 zone as well on multiple sample rates, even standard 44.1/16, which is strange. Do you have Exclusive Mode turned on via your Windows PC menu? Is there any difference in behavior if you use Control + T to pause playback (this also force-releases the audio device).

Yes, the issue occurs when using the Windows system mixer main output.

If I use the direct Wasapi output to the Logitech speakers its fine.

Seems to be a bug.

Well post the Roon update just pushed, this no longer appears to be an issue.

I can now push audio to the Windows default PC Mixer output - No issues.
