I have Roon setup as the core on my QNAP TVS 871. I have connected a Meridian Director USB DAC directly to a QNAP USB socket for monitoring purposes but cannot get any audio. The DAC is seen by the core as an audio device “connected to the core directly”. I have enabled it with default settings. I can select the DAC from the Zones icon and apparently play music from the library. The signal path shows as lossless from source through to the DAC, but no audio!
Some screenshots from my PC used as the controller.
However, this only happens on first connection of the Meridian. After this first time, it still shows up but audio tracks are skipped over (no attempt to play them). Disconnecting and reconnecting the DAC and the process starts again.
Any thoughts on what I might be doing wrong or what I need to do to get this to work?
I’ve had a similar problem with USB connected device. I found that running the zone in exclusive mode solved this issue. Not sure if it will help you but it did fix that exact problem for me.
This could be a workaround since this is only for occasional monitoring but I’m not sure I understand properly. Can you clarify a little. Do you mean configure the DAC as a private zone within the Roon Audio Setup? or do you mean configuring the USB DAC in exclusive mode when connected to a MAC or PC ? If the later, the QNAP cannot do this i believe. The former doesn’t work in my case because the qnap is headless and i have no way to control a zone connected to it if it’s set to private.
This problem may be specific to my DAC (Meridian Director). A fairly specific driver installation process needs to be followed to get it to work on my windows 10 PC. Below is what Meridian support commented about it. This seems to be more of a QNAP/DAC compatibility issue rather than Roon but may be relevant to others in this forum thinking about doing something similar.
"The Director DAC was designed to be used with a computer, so WindowsPC or Mac. When used with a Windows machine our USB drivers are required to allow correct operation, these and the associated instructions can be found here.
Because the DAC was never designed with NAS drive connectivity in mind, we are not in a position to be able to offer any further help on that subject, other than the above Driver information."
Does anyone know of the Meridian Explorer can be run as a zone of the Qnap TVS 471?
