Describe the issue

Is there a all in one manual for the Roon service. Seems any questions I have can only be answered after an online click-fest on your site (or Reddit, or Head-Fi) etc.

Hello, @msting

Thank you for contacting Roon Support.

If you haven’t found the answer to your question in our knowledge base provided by @mjw, please let us know and we’ll be happy to help.

It doesn’t seem the question was understood. Where can I find a Roon manual? Remember these? They have a table of contents, chapters for each topic, and generally an index. If one wishes, you can read the entire thing sequentially from beginning to end and understand most the aspects of a product.
I don’t like the “Here’s the product you just paid for. If you have questions you have to search our online knowlege base for the article that may or may not give you the needed detail.” approach.

There isn’t a manual. Someone in the community tried to produce one a few years back, but it very rapidly got out of date and fell by the wayside.

Roon Labs have enough problems keeping the online knowledge base up to date, IMO.

Most of us just learn by poking the product, and as @vadim says, if there’s something you don’t understand, ask your question in the Roon Software Discussion category of the forum. Plenty of us are happy to help.

Thank you for replying. This answers my question. Though it is surprising that as long as Roon has been in service, and as much as folks are paying, that there isn’t at least an online manual that they could maintain. I am finding ChatGPT is about the best support option at this point.
Thanks again!

Sorry it wasn’t the answer you were looking for.

But personally, I would not use ChatGPT - it has a track record of giving wrong answers about Roon with a perfectly straight face. You’ll get better answers by asking the human experts here in the Community…

Hi @msting,

What are the specific questions you have? The team can promptly clarify any details about Roon’s architecture, features, or best practices. You have an open support thread here.

Roon doesn’t maintain an authoritative, single manual because we release updates in an iterative cycle, with new features, UI overhauls, and bug fixes rolling out incrementally every several weeks. Our documentation is admittedly sparse and outdated on the Knowledge Base for certain features; we’re in the process of an internal audit to improve that problem.

Please let us know how we can help further. We’ll watch for your reply.

I don’t have specific questions at this point. And that’s sort of the point. I don’t want to have to engage another person or the community just to learn the interface and all the processes and functions I can perform and any details within. I shouldn’t have to go online and create a thread for every question that comes up while using the software. I’ve been doing medical software engineering for 13 years now and find the trend of retail software support eliminating manuals because the companies can’t be bothered with the expense of maintaining documentation really annoying - especially considering software as a service has become a real cash cow for companies that deploy this model. But I’m sure I’m spittin’ in the wind at this point.
Thank you for your timely responses.
