Two things to check
- USB port set to device mode in BIOS
- Playback from UAC2 started in HQPlayer
This should be enough for the device to appear at the host side.

@jussi_laako i was able to change to device mode in bios but now the web ui is stuck on the “generic” page , i cant open the input , library , speaker , convolution etc , ideas>?
If it throws you on the /config page always, it is hint that your configuration is broken and needs fixing. Usual reason for this is that the output device is not accessible.
Screenshots of everything on your Config page will help.
And what DAC?
And in the case of using UAC2 input , screenshots of your confing .XML file to check coding
If we can see what you see, makes it much faster to spot issues .
@dabassgoesboomboom holo may dac , how does one access the config.xml file?
ifi stream / node doesnt recognize hqplayer/upboard as output device, hqplayer wont allow UAC2 input to stay locked in
thanks for everyone’s help
Ah. If you haven’t made any changes to config xml file, that would explain why UpBoard NAA input isn’t working.
We recently went through all the steps the last couple weeks in this thread with @Michael_Grant
Have a read if you can. When I’m back home I can share the steps if you get stuck.
All the steps are in this thread but I was planning to consolidate when I had time.
I’m just trying to better understand what you’re attempting, a bit more context.
You want to feed iFi Zen Stream’s USB output into the UpBoard?
And you want to feed Bluesound Node’s USB output into the UpBoard? Assuming it’s the newest N130 model.
@dabassgoesboomboom i want to feed either the ifi zen stream or blusound node (n130) into the upboard gateway
I have both preferably the ifi zen stream because i think it sound better.
OK. So you need to hookup your machine HQP machine to monitor with keyboard. You haven’t mentioned what you’re running HQP Embedded but I’ll take a guess.
You need to load this onto your UP Gateway using etcher (no need for monitor and keyboard hooked to UPBoard for this):
https://www.signalyst.eu/bins/naa/images/naa-420-x64ramfs.7z
Run this on your HQP machine:
systemctl stop hqplayerd
nano /etc/hqplayer/hqplayerd.xml
Then
Add this line:
<input address="naa" channels="2" channel_offset="0" device="USB Audio Class 2" name="USB Audio Class 2" format="pcm" ipv6="1" pack_sdm="0" period_time="0" samplerate="44100" short_buffer="0" type="network"/>
Make sure you save the .xml file before you exit it. After you close it, open it again to double check this line is saved.
Then
systemctl restart hqplayerd
You need to get the syntax precise or it won’t work. If it doesn’t work, go back and re-check you got everything exact.
Check out the convo with Michael G in this thread just a couple weeks ago. You’ll see where he made some small errors that caused a big headache.
Start playing music on your iFi Zen or N130 - I recommend starting with a 44.1kHz always.
Then go to the ‘Input’ page of HQP web page. Select USB Audio Class 2.
Start with your volume low during this experimentation until you know how it all works.
Report back how you go !
See mine below. Pay attention to the colours. They can give you a clue if you type something wrong , as Michael Grant recently found out.
ok great thanks ill give it a shot. i have hqplayer embedded 4.30.3-x64gen installed
i just want to be clear all im looking to do is airplay apple music from my iphone/ipad to my streamer OR ipad direct USBc > USB 3.0 otg microb > HQPeOS upboard gateway > run convolution/pcm upsample done on the HQPeOS upboard > USB 2.0 out to Holo May dac.
i dont have any other hqplayer servers or endponts running in the system… yet.
Also be aware that the colours may vary considerably depending on your terminal type and .dircolors
settings or equivalent. If all goes well I’ll be giving something similar a go this evening
I was able to edit the xml file
I now have an additional UAC2 input listed
But i cannot get sound into the upboard either via ifi stream , BS node , or usb direct from ipad
When you select either of the UAC2 inputs nothing happens and if you leave the page it reverts back to playlist
I dont think the upboard is reading the usb 3 port correct
If you are running HQPlayer OS image and want to locally use the USB input on same device, you don’t need to edit the configuration file at all. It is already there predefined (you can see it in your screenshot, fourth line on the drop list).
Anything in HQPlayer log file when you select the input?
that makes sense
i think, its working now i had to change in upboard bios
Default drd config to - device mode
And
Usb vbus to - off
one issue im experiencing and i dont know if its been covered before is if i switch sources on my dac then back to the usb which goes to the upboard , communication has been lost and i have to restart the upboard to use it again.
That depends on the DAC whether it disappears from USB bus when you switch inputs. For example iFi doesn’t.
It should recover if HQPlayer is in stopped state. If HQPlayer is in playing state when you switch, then things start to break when USB device suddenly disappears on the fly.
Thank you all for the help this is pretty awesome im using the ifi zen stream it seems to work a little faster and and less issues changing sources then the blusound node.
Upsampling to a modest pcm 384k sinc mx lns15
Roon endpoint with hqplayer convolution/upsample
Apple music
Nugs.net for my live shows
Amazon music
All wirelessly from my iphone. Pretty cool
Is there anything to gain from a faster more powerful upboard machine? Would be nice if it was a little more snappy loading etc.
or just higher upsample capabilities.
I didn’t know you were actually running full blown HQP on the Upboard itself
But if you get a powerful HQP machine, you can use the Upboard just as a USB input over the network
And those are the steps I shared above (how I use it).
So in my case the little Intel Atom processor in the Upboard isn’t a factor. It just takes my iOS/macOS stream and hands off to my i9-11900K which does upsampling to DSD and other DSP
A lot of people are feeding their Holo DACs with DSD256 / PCM1.5MHz
So if you have a powerful machine that can do that, just follow the steps I shared
In case my Upboard is inside my listening room but my 11900K is on the other side of the house.
So music goes from iOS to UpBoard then over Cat 6 to other side of house then back to listening room to DAC
I don’t think Upboard make an 11900K or 12900K which has that special “OTG” USB port.
I did say I know enough about command lining to get this stuff working and not a bit more ! Good tip here
Finally joining the cool kids !
Awesome yea at first the main reason i wanted to do this was just so i could use my audiolense filters across all my streaming services not just roon now ill play around with the more powerfull upsampling but honestly pcm 384 sinc mx on the holo may sounds fantastic
