Very high RoonAppliance CPU usage

Roon has been running on my Mac mini for a few months, without problems, but in the last few days the mini’s fans have been running constantly. In the Mac’s Activity Monitor, I see RoonAppliance is using between 95% and 140% of the CPU.

Roon 1.4 (build 294)
Mac mini (Mid 2011) 2.3 GHz Intel Core i5
RAM 16 GB 1333 MHz DDR3
macOS 10.13.2 (High Sierra)

Roon has Background and On-Demand Audio Analysis set to throttled.

I recently cleaned up the library and cleared the cache (library has about 28,000 tracks including both local and Tidal music). Roon is watching for new files in the local music hard drive folder as well as in a Dropbox folder.

Last week I upgraded to High Sierra and since the CPU usage issue has surfaced since, I’m wondering if there is a conflict requiring some kind of change in either Roon or system settings.

Best,
Clint

Is Roon still doing background analysis?

Have you restarted the mini since the fan started revving up?

If the problem persists after rebooting the mini, you might try disabling the Dropbox folder in Roon, just to see if that makes a difference.

(FWIW, I’m running Roon Server on the same model mini with no problems.)

Thank you, David. Fans were still running after reboot, but is soon as I deleted the Dropbox watch folder, it went back to normal levels. Perhaps I will just leave Dropbox off permanently.

Best,
Clint
