Voice Assistant for ARC in-car

Second time is a charm. I instructed Siri to “Play Reb Fountain in ARC” but I got some track by a different artist. The second time I tried, Siri played her self-titled album, so perhaps that is the default behavior in ARC if there is an exact match like that… I was expecting some kind of shuffle since I didn’t specify which album. Perhaps next time if I request SIRI PLAY A

It was next to impossible to type that reply using an iPhone. For some reason, this website would not let me scroll to the end of the text box. I eventually gave up.

I noticed today that Arc is my car via Android Auto is now displaying way more of my music collection. I only had about 5 minutes to play around with, but this is great!!

Voice control didn’t work though. I could see on my screen that Google was hearing “Ruin Ark.” I’ll mess around more tomorrow.

Lastly, the screenshots above show a search icon for CarPlay but not Android. Is there really still no search in Android Auto?

Hi Edward, there is indeed voice search in Android Auto. Try following the instructions in my original post. It’s accessible by the voice assistant button. Make sure you’ve selected no default app for music apps within voice search settings.

Both Siri and Google take some time to understand you’re asking for Roon ARC, and both of them are bad at transcribing ARC’s name. Just be super explicit in the beginning that you want music to play from “Roon ARC” then it should become automatic.

Expanding voice search to other use cases like you’ve mentioned would indeed be very cool. Feel free to start a thread in Feature Suggestions and others can chime in too. Thanks for the feedback.

Hey Ian,

Those screenshots are from ARC running through Carplay and Android Auto’s interface. The regular mobile app was not altered. Hope this helps.

Finally! Thank you!

Now, a proper search function (keyboard) under search would be helpful. Searching for classical music often doesn’t work so well with voice control…

When i try to use voice commands it doesnt use ARC, it plays the song on another music service. There is no default in android auto for ARC. Help.

Shuffle play doesn’t work using voice assist on Carplay.

Voice assist confirms that the command to shuffle play but the playlist plays in the original order.

No, I’m just using my Tidal App to play music when I’m on the road. Roon ARC, for me, is like unmedicated dental surgery. I might be the better for it, but the pain of the operation isn’t worth it.

Super happy with this feature. It works great in my car on Android auto. Even ‘play 1978 by James’ gave the result I wanted: Jose James’ album 1978 was understood…

Wow excellent update, love this feature :star_struck: makes it so much more useful on the road. Thank you Roon team.

It works - it actually works! A most welcome updates to ARC…- cheers, and looking forward to more upgrades to ARC to ironing out tidbits, and enhancing it further. great work guys

Also like to add my thanks for the voice control. Worked a treat for me (nothing worse than trying to fiddle with touch screens when voice can do it). Thanks Roon Team!

I agree ARC works with Siri as well…,worked the first time I tried it. Siri just ask permission to use ARC the first time…It blows me away how well it works…

Selecting “no default app” seems to have done the trick. This last update really is a Great Leap Forward.

I left Roon about two years ago because i was finding more and more of my music listening was either Atmos music through Apple or physical Blu-ray concerts and Atmos music disks through a Kaleidescape system.

I came back to Roon about 6 months ago to give Arc a try. I was disappointed in that it would only show some of the artists in my collection, and then only a few of the albums by each artist. I was seriously thinking about cancelling again. This latest update may keep me around.

Now if only we could get Apple Atmos support, I’ll be thrilled!!

Glad to see this finally added, thank you!

I went through the setup for CarPlay and if I hit the blue “Ask Siri to Play Audio” bar in Roon ARC on CarPlay it would indeed respond to my request like the examples in this post.

But I came back to my car, connected again and then without anything playing said “Play Pink Floyd” or “Play The Wall by Pink Floyd” and it said something about another audio (digital radio) app not knowing what I was asking.

So how do I ensure that all my “Play …” requests are forwarded to Roon ARC ?

Do I have to run ARC from the CarPlay interface and always ask there?
Or do I say Play The Wall by Pink Floyd on Roon ARC"??

Cheers.

Ok, as this was under the “Android” section I missed it initially. Thanks.
