I’m running Roon Server on a own built Windows 11 machine, running the latest version 2.0 build 1353.
Connected Audio Devices
I have 2 Roon Ready devices:
Minidsp SHD (Version 3.571 and RAAT SDK Version 1.1.38) over ethernet cable
Bluesound Pulse Mini 2i over wifi
Remote is ios application or on Windows 11 (laptop/Roon Server)
I only use Qobuz as music source
Description of Issue
I’m not sure if it is due to a new update on the side of Minidsp SHD or Roon, but I experience lately that controlling the volume of the Minidsp SHD doesn’t stay in sync. I’m able to change the volume, however it always jumps back to -50 at this moment, while for example the actual volume level is -45 on the device. If I want to change the volume again in Roon, the Minidsp SHD jumps first back to -50…
I tried to close all instances of Roon like server and remotes, disabled/enabled Minidsp SHD, but even when I start Roon Server again, the volume level is still not in sync.
I sent miniDSP support a few messages about this. They were unable to duplicate the problem but last night I sent a video of it. The volume doesn’t seem to be jumping anymore today, but they haven’t replied back. Maybe they fixed it? Seems promising.
Thank you for the report and your patience as we worked through the queue to reach your inquiry.
We have a few clarifying questions that will help expedite our investigation.
First off, do you have any DSP applied to the MiniDSP Zone in question? What about volume leveling?
Please share a screenshot of the Signal Path within Roon for the MiniDSP RoonReady Zone at your convenience.
Secondly, do you see this issue when using Airplay or another protocol to connect to the MiniDSP in Roon?
Lastly, what happens if you uninstall the GUI component of Roon (Roon.exe) on your Windows RoonServer machine, leaving only RoonServer.exe, and use another Remote to control the MiniDSP endpoint?
This issue has returned for me, so I’ll share my settings, too. I am using DSP (Dirac Live) but not Roon/Muse DSP. The problem is there with or without DSP activated. No volume leveling. Signal path attached. I’m using a NUC and the SHD remote and Harmony remote both control volume correctly with no surprise volume jumps.
I’n not using any dsp in Roon itself, however I have the balance level and delay altered in the Minidsp to correct the center of the stereo image, no Dirac applied (yet). This have been the case from the start, when it all worked fine.
I use Roon to control the volume of my Roon ready devices, which have been the case from the start as well, when it all worked fine. Nothing else applied regarding controllong volume/levelling.
Using Airplay works differently, it doesnt alter the volume of the Minidsp itself when playing with the volume level…
I’ll see if I can test unistalling the GUI component and let you know.
edit: I uninstalled Roon Server and deleted all folders on my Windows computer, after a new installation it seemed to be solved. However after using the miniDSP remote to control volume, Roon will, after changing the volume in Roon, always jumps back to the latest volume level set with the remote.
Thank you for your patience and the recent reports - we’re continuing to investigate this issue and will have a more detailed update as soon as possible.
Been trying to get some attention from Roon support, but I only hear crickets. HQPlayer support tried to help, but it seems to be a Roon bug. Tried to do a clean reinstall yesterday, but no luck.
Hi fver, I have indeed a similar issue after updating the SHD and ROON. Not sure where the issue is. It all worked perfectly before. So far I didn’t contact minidsp support as I would think it’s an issue at ROON’s side. I don’t use Volumio, but I noticed that the volume level set of the SHD with its remote will become the default volume level. So indeed, for example, it has been set to -50 with the remote, and I changed it within ROON to -40, it will jump back to -50 in ROON, however the actual volume level is still -40. Altering the volume level within ROON to -45, for example, makes the volume level at the side of SHD first jump to -50 and then change to -45
Yes I’m having the same experiences as you two. miniDSP has asked me for logs but I’ve been unable to generate them. I hope Roon and/or miniDSP will coordinate at some point to resolve this.
Hello, Is someone able to provide an update? It’s been more than a month since I reported this bug and not even the reason of it has been given, let alone a solution. It’s really annoying since it all worked fine before.
Hi, I got this update from Minidsp Team, fingers crossed:
We’ve already warned the Volumio team and they are working on a fix. Due to holiday break, things just got a bit slower but an update will be expected shortly around early Jan. Thanks for your patience!
Hoping this info helps and feel free to contact us if you have further questions.
