Volume Leveling vs Headroom Management

Hi,

Should I enable Headroom Management when I’m using Volume Leveling?

Best regards,
Maciek

Nope, not necessary. Headroom management is there if you want to use equalization or convolution.

Yeah, that’s ok. But what if I’m using equalization, convolution and volume leveling? Should I enable headroom management or volume leveling is sufficient?

Best regards,
Maciek

I think volume levelling is adding plenty headroom (more than I’d add myself for just creating headroom).

If you’re unsure, enable it with zero gain adjustment but turn clipping indicator on. If it never goes red you’re good.

This is a good call. When I’m running without Volume Levelling, my DSP needs -5dB headroom not to clip on my hottest albums (e.g. James Blunt - Back to Bedlam, Paul McCartney - Memory Almost Full). -4.5dB won’t quite do it.

With Volume Levelling turned on and the same DSP Engine settings, I’ve turned off Headroom, because most tracks are reduced by at least 5dB.
