Start Roon Server
Start Roon from System Tray Icon
When thinking animation stops I have a screen where I can start playback for BBC Radio 3.
Plays back for 2-4 minutes “perfectly”.
Then get circular progress bar "Waiting for your Roon Server ".
Without any action from me the circular progress is replaced by the black thinking animation.
After 30-60 seconds thinking animation replaced by input screen which I use to start BBC 3 again.
2-4 minutes OK and then “Waiting” etc.
This cycle can be repeated ad infinitum.
Same story if I am playing flac from my local library on internal ssd, or streaming from Qobuz.
I have tried a direct wired connection to router. No change
Thanks for taking the time to write in, and for your patience so far! Sorry to hear you’re having some connection issues after the recent Roon update.
Does this issue happen on other endpoints, or from the system output of the PC?
I’d also make sure Roon is set as a proper exception in your firewall:
We’re currently investigating potential issues and solutions for your issue, could you please reproduce the issue and share the specific date, time and name of the track playing when the issue occurs?
Once you let me know this info, I’ll go ahead and enable diagnostics for your account so I can review the logging for clues.
If you’d rather do it yourself manually, please use the directions found here and send over a set of logs to our File Uploader.
Both RoonServer and Roon Logs from mini pc server uploaded.
Also Roon logs from pc used to access roon on server
The only output is to the DacMagic 2
The latest test I did was Roon Server on server accessed by roon on pc
BBC radio 3
flac from local ssd (10CC)
3.Stream from Qobuz (Beethoven Piano)
all 3 behaved the same - stop between 2-4 minutes.
I set up the PC as an endpoint. The PC is connected to the DacMagic via optical digital.
The result was the same.
Works via output from PC as endpoint for a couple of minutes and then "Waiting… etc
Thanks for the update! I first want to triple-confirm you have the below set up as exceptions in your windows firewall settings:
roonserver.exe
raatserver.exe
roonappliance.exe
Have you tried manually re-installing Roon directly from our downloads site? We’ve seen this help with similar cases, here’s a link to our downloads if you haven’t tried this out yet:
Thanks for the update! Our team is still investigating things further, so I don’t have any immediate next steps for you, unfortunately.
Our developers are digging into this issue as we speak, so I hope to have more information to share soon.
Outside of that, if you’d like to test out running Roon Server on different devices to see if your issues reproduce, one may yield a more stable environment.
I have now set up Roon on 3 different machines with the same result as described above.
On the last attempt I deleted the Roon folder, downloaded the Windows installation file and installed Roon from scratch.
I did not restore from a backup of Roon.
I did not identify any folders to be watched, nor set up Qobuz.
I identified the System Output as Audio.
The only thing I ran was BBC Radio 3. This worked as “usual”.
After running for a short period the “waiting for your server” message appeared, and so on.
Updated to Version 2 Build 1357. No change I am afraid.
Windows did ask if I wanted Raatserver.exe through the firewall. I had already allowed it, but confirmed to
allow raatserver again, but this did not change anything.
Thanks for the update, and I’m sorry to hear your issues persist.
Which Windows device is typically running your server? I’d first get back to how your original setup was and make sure Roon Server isn’t running on any of your other devices.
If you could please reproduce the issue on the original server, and then send over the windows event viewer log from that same device for review, this may give us a clue as to what is causing the crashing. I’ll share the steps below on how to retrieve this file:
Press Win + R and type eventvwr.msc
Press OK – this should open Event Viewer window
From the left sidebar go to Windows Logs > Application
Right click on the Application subsection and pick Filter Current Log... from the context menu
Logs uploaded as requested as user David_Le_Feuvre.
This on the miniPC I5 8gb which is dedicated as a Roon Server.
I generated 2 crashes accessing BBC Radio 3 as per usual.
Thanks for sending that over! Based on the crash report, we saw an error tied toa TmUmEvt64.dll dll file, which likely means you have Trend Micro installed.
Per the instructions above, a potential solution is to upgrade from current DSA 11 and install DSA 11 U21 or above. To upgrade the DSA, please refer to this Help Center article.
I have done as you asked, but with no change.
I have run Task Manager which shows Roonappliance cpu usage at c 30% and memory at up to 2gb.
When the the crash occurs Roonappliance cpu goes up to over 80% while memory allocation goes down to zero.
Over the next half minute or so cpu goes back down while meomory allocated goes back over 1.5gb.
This is while the black busy icon shows.
After reinstalling Roon as requested with no database restored or Qobuz set up the memory allocation is around 600 mb, but otherwise the behaviour is the same as with the full library etc.

2 crashes recorded today
No restored library, no folders watched, just playing BBC Radio 3 output to DacMagic 2 via USB
