Want to go cheap here, A NUC for 315,90 €

Hello music lovers, I’m thinking of buying a “Intel NUC Kit NUC11PAHi30Z02 Core i3 Panther Canyon Lite” for Roon Rock. I have max 2000 albums on my Nas. Streaming via Qobuz is what I do most. Question is Will this NUC do the job with 8gb DDR and and a small 500 gig SSD. And more important is this NUC supported. I think it is but want to be sure.
Thank you for your insights

Update!!
The thing has been bought. Given the comments here and on Roon’s own site, I am confident it will work. I am anxious to see

Thank you all :+1:

My 2 cents:

  • depends on how many Qobuz albums are in your library. If lots, or you want to be future proof, go to 16gb of memory, faster is better, 2 8gb DIMMs beats one 16gb DIMM
  • depends also on how much DSP in how many zones simultaneously. If heavy, go faster than i3 to i5 or i7. If light/single zone then i3 is fine

I’m no expert, but that is my heuristic. Good luck!

I should also say I didn’t check if it’s supported. There’s a list. Sorry, I’m too lazy to do that for you :frowning:

This is elementary. A supported i3 processor is absolutely fine for a small to medium library. There is no need to up the specification to an i5. If you anticipate having 12k+ albums, go for an i7. If you intend to use heavy DSP, go for an i7. Otherwise, the i3 is perfect. Indeed, my NUC8i3BEH is still going strong after 5 years, and is happy running moderate DSP on multiple zones with ~5k albums.

Please note that there is no distinction between local and streaming sources when choosing a processor; it is based on the total number of albums.

Have no practical experience with this Gen11 NUC but the specs look like perfect for roon even if you add a significant number of albums via Qobuz. Let it be 100k or 150k tracks - both the CPU and 8GB of RAM should be absolutely capable of handling that. No need for an i5/i7 or more RAM unless you have a library exceeding the aforementioned numbers.

As this is a dualcore 4thread CPU even outperforming the latest Nucleus+ slightly, I would not worry about heavy streams or DSPing either. It should handle simultaneous multiroom streaming with ease even if you opt for computing-heavy operations such as convolution filters and PCM2DSD256.

But thank you just the same. I’ve seen that list, But as a Mac user I’m not that familiar with what it all means. There is still some text after the i3. I have no clue what it all means

The Intel NUC Kit NUC11PAHi30Z02 is supported.

The product naming for NUC11+ is described here. The 0Z02 means integrated graphics, 8 GB Lite version / Reduced configuration*, no operating system, and EU cord included.

*Edit:Lite version / Reduced configuration, but not an issue for ROCK. Has no installed memory.

It is just the specific model of a NUC equipped with a specific Intel Core CPU. If you want to check the specs on intel´s page:

https://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/products/sku/228584/intel-nuc-11-performance-kit-nuc11pahi30z/specifications.html

The important information is:

CPU: Core i3-1115G4
RAM: DDR4-3200, 2slots, max 64GB
