What does Roon do in upmixing 4.0 and 5.0 to 5.1?

My library includes some 4.0 and 5.0 recordings. I would like to know exactly what Roon does when it upmixes either of those to 5.1. In particular, does it modify the L, R, SL and SR channels at all?

My experience is that Roon does not modify any of the channels, but it may not map them correctly. For example, I often find that 4.0 tracks map incorrectly unless I use Music Media Helper’s Remix Channel Layout app to add a silent 5th channel. JCR

Apologies for the delay here! Roon only re-maps channels when upmixing, there is no modification happening. See the screenshots below for more info:

The main difference between the mapping of 4.0 and 5.0 to 5.1 is 5.0 includes the center channel. Hope this helps! :+1:
