I’m thinking about replacing my Chromecast Audio (I currently rely on analog output from it into an amplifier) with a Pi + HAT DAC solution running Ropiee. But I’ve heard several HAT DACs don’t support volume control from Roon (for example, the Allo Boss).
So, my question: what Pi + HAT DAC solutions support volume control from Roon?
Bonus question: does Pi + Audioquest Dragonfly DAC support volume control from Roon?
Thanks for any help!
The PecanPi DAC supports volume control from roon through the DSP function.
I’ve used the hardware (‘device’) volume control on the IQAudio PI-DAC+ via Roon.
That said, depending on how much you need to attenuate the volume, you may get better sound doing this at your amp. There’s various posts around that explain all this in more detail than I fully understand - might be worth having a read through if you’re not already familiar with the options. There’s also a distinction between volume control via Roon using Roon software/DSP and volume control via Roon using the device volume.
