I have been going through my vinyl in preparation for the recording of which and discovering lost gems. Here is another one.
John Brannen Mystery Street, 1988
Brannen has been compared to Bruce Springsteen, John Mellencamp, Tom Petty, and Jackson Browne. HIs debut, Mystery Street made the Top 20 based on the hit below and heavy MTV rotation.

C.P.E. Bach, the eldest son of J.S. and a key influence on Haydn and Mozart, was known throughout Europe for his innovative and expressiveâindeed downright quirkyâmusic for solo keyboard. Here, on this well recorded ECM release, Russian keyboardist Alexei Lubimov plays a selection of the younger Bachâs pieces on a rare âtangent pianoâ from the late 18th C., which sounds like a cross between a harpsichord and a piano.
Both the music and the instrument sound out of space and time, which is all the recommendation they need.
Listened to this last nightâŚ
Iâm lateâŚ
Late for bed, yes!
I used to listen to Floyd a lot, and this was my favourite back then
I wonder what connection Roon drew across two centuries between C.P.E. Bach and this record, queued up next by Roon Radio. I was unaware of contemporary composer Milosz Magin, but am enjoying listening to this recent release featuring pianist Lucas Debargue, who was Maginâs student.
Iâm not saying that this is the best song on a great album, but itâs pretty great
Shack: Comedy.
Also been revisiting this today.
Pearls Before Swine: One Nation Underground.
Perfect!
SEBTP next!
and then TLDOB!
Genesis getting a lot of love at the moment. No bad thing and well deserved. I didnât have the desire to see this current tour, even though itâs probably the last. My younger sister and her husband went to the Liverpool show and said it was amazingâŚhowever, she doesnât have a clue about Genesis up until âDukeâ. For me, âDukeâ was the end of the line
Yes, I agree, I will not go to see them live nowâŚitâs a personal decision but I saw them at Wembley stadium in the '80s and want to keep that wonderful memory.
Thank the Lord that they are getting a lot of love at the moment, so well deserved!
N.B. am writing this as I listen to âFirth of FifthââŚ
. Last time I saw them was Roundhay Park in Leeds 1987. The setlist was pretty much not my idea of fun, but it was a treasure, because I went with my Mum ( R.I.P), who asked me to get tickets for us. She said she would have never heard their music if it wasnât for me constantly playing it in my bedroom when I was young
Good on yer Mum! She kept you on the straight and narrow AND still took an interest in what you enjoyed!
My Mum died in 1988 and was always guiding me quietly in the background.
N.B. I sincerely hope my Mum can remember me playing Ooh La La album by the Faces!
Cheers Paul, appreciated. That Faces song and album are a classic!
Just listening to it now!
Just to be totally maudlin I have told my son to play it at my funeral.
Blimey, I need to stop the blues and get rocking!!!
Just livened up with the track âDTVâ on this wonderful album thatâs reminiscent of the Stones!
Hey, whatâs that banner that theyâve covered her cheeks with?? Never was there the last time I saw the album coverâŚperhaps its not PC?
