I think deep down we all have our funeral songs. My wife has ’ Heroes’ and I think I may have to consider something appropriate for my own demise
Anyway, On a lighter note. This is great!!!

“Tagged as the Glimmer Twins of post-punk, former Swell Maps leader Nikki Sudden and the Keith Richards to his Mick Jagger – one Dave Kusworth – delivered this awesome collection of psychedelic gems in 2000 after a long hiatus. Nikki Sudden can still seamlessly fold Bob Dylan, T. Rex, the Rolling Stones, and Big Star into the same tatty overcoat and present them as a respectable entity in Jacobites, albeit with a collection of songs that any of the above-mentioned artists would be envious of. Standout tracks include the lurching boogie of “Over & Over,” the gorgeous “When Angels Die,” the simply spine-chilling “What Am I Living For?,” and “Puppeteer’s Son.” The album closes with the eloquent “Wasted,” which makes this, all in all, one of Nikki Sudden’s best-recorded outings in the 12 years between 1988’s landmark Fortune of Fame.” Dean McFarlane [AllMusic Guide]
I have no interest in seeing Phil sitting in a chair TBH. Saw Genesis on Duke tour and also 1984/5 which was great and all, but the Bataclan concert footage from 1972 (or maybe 1973, I can’t remember) shows what they were at the peak IMHO.
Hotel California was released 45 years ago today. I remember the excitement of listing to it the first time as a16/17 year old kid. One of the best selling albums of all time. Thank God Eagles are rich enough that they don’t need to issue a 45th mix/master.
This is fantastic, absolutely love it.
Beautiful (funeral) doom, includes track ”In Both Our Worlds the Pain Is Real” with My Dying Bride vocalist.
My most played in TIDAL last month.
Slightly breathless on headphones but very very good.
Born in 1997, Alexandre Kantorov was still only 19 years old when this album was recorded. Signed to the BIS label since he was only 17, in 2019 he won the prestigious Tchaikovsky competition.
Last week his newest album with Brahms piano music was released, but if you’ve never heard of this young and promising pianist, have a listen to his ‘À la Russe’ first…
That’s a very good set of the Beethoven violin sonatas! These two young musicians do very well together…
Even if Antal Doráti’s 1959 recording with the London Symphony Orchestra on Mercury Living Presence is still considered gold standard as to interpretations of Stravinsky’s Firebird ballet music, I consider this 2018 recording as being at the same level. Petrenko has formed the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic into a world-class orchestra, and it would be only too nice to see and hear them in concert. For now, I am limited to exploring their discography on Roon/Tidal, but even so this is just great.
