What's Rocking You Tonight? [2025-08]

Oh br’er Ace, now who’s big mad?

You know you have to have them.

It’s a format!

MQA is pretty much a dead format now. I bought a few since my new disc player supported it AND actually will light up a colored lamp to articulate the MQA file type….

No need to sell it further. He’s already looking for a player.

It’s an insane hobby/addiction. I’m all in.

Aye. Tis that.

I was looking through boxes last week trying to find some CDs and stumbled across a couple of forgotten cassetts. I actually looked around at what a decent deck goes for now before I smashed my face into the wall to knock some sense back in.

Close call.

Oh we just LOVE “dead” formats around here.
I mean just look at vinyl…it simply refuses to lie down and die gracefully as it probably should have done last century!

And I’m pretty sure @Michael_Harris still has some Betamax tapes and Laserdiscs in his attic come Tardis!

But let’s have some music..on my favourite dead format of course.

Right then. Must keep up the side.

This whole SACD mono collection from AP is wonderful. Highly recommend if it is still in print.

I bought into Roon with the full intention of using it to manage all of my disc collection in a proper, modern way and offload all of those quaint 20th century mini frisbees to some other sucker.

Except for the SACDs. I’ll keep them.
And the UDCDs. They are special. I’ll maybe keep them.

I have more CDs now then I did three years ago. That. Did. Not. Go. As. Planned.

I have open reel tapes and recurrently consider getting a Revox B77

Highly recommend the wall smash method.

I have kind of given up worrying.
My daughter can figure all my crap out once I am done and in the afterlife.

lol

Same. I did leave her the discogs login credentials in a will note to make it a bit easier on her. It also says “Have a look at this website before you dump all of these off at Goodwill, dearest.”

R2R was absolutely the most frustrating media experience I partook.
On one hand when it was good, man was it GOOD!
But even with a restored deck there was always tape shed and magnetized heads and clean, clean, clean.
Oh and don’t mention snapping a damn tape either!

I can honestly say I do not miss it.

I always thought it would be cool to know how to splice tape. I dunno why. Maybe for the same reason I thought it was cool to repair modems back when it made economic sense to do so. Loupes and high silver content wire. THREE different types of iron. So geeky.

Unfamiliar with that one. Added to the queue.

Lea Maria Fries’ Cleo is a bold, genre-blending debut—jazz-infused, poetic and emotionally rich—offering an intimate, multilingual journey through identity, transformation, and sonic experimentation.
