What's wrong with my Chromecast speakers?

Hello

i am working with last version of Roon and stream my music QOBUZ to 2 chromecast devices (Nest Audio & JBL citation 200).
I experience same issue with playback: Sometimes it stops 2 seconds and start again.
We never know when it appears.

I have 2 others devices (Devialet RAAT and Sonos Play 1), no issue at all.

This annoying behavoir is specific to Chromacast speakers?

My JBL Link has no such issues over Chromecast.

My ISP device is a Livebox 5 from Orange (France).
A mini-PC wired with Roon Core on Windows 10.
All my speakers are Wifi connected.
I control all with Remote app on Samsung S23 (Android).

I don’t see any Multicast parameter in my ISP box.

I think Roon downsize the stream otherwise the chromecast speaker would not be able to play at all?
The speaker are located at 3m from the router, Wifi signal is strong. The interruption is randomly. Sometimes it can play for 1 hour with no issue and after many interruptions. Strange.

Is there an known issue with Chromecast taken in charge by Roon or not?

Being intermittent points to it being wifi network related, Wifi is never really stable and is up/down in bandwidth at any given time. Signal strength isn’t really a factor as to how well wireless works as it gives no indication of latency or over utilisation of the wifi in your area or the data rates of the transmission its just an indicator of RF signal strength. Could be a neighbours AP is now on the same channel as yours and causing some interference or your wireless network is over utilised.

Today, issue occurs several times. I decided to play same playlist from Qobuz app on my tel android with chromecast connection. No issue at all, the play was flawless.
So is it a true wifi issue!? I doubt.

Apples and oranges comparison, I’m afraid. Roon’s networking is much more demanding than that used in the Qobuz app, so Roon could well be pushing your WiFi out of its comfort zone…

There are several issues with Chromecast over WiFi. Not really Roon issues, but Roon stresses the Chromecast more than most protocols. One problem is that sometimes phantom Chromecast groups will go in and out of existence, causing Roon to tear down its Chromecast connections and rebuild them. Which causes an interruption. Another problem is that load-balancing systems in the WiFi router can cause the same kind of teardown and rebuild of the connections. It gave me problems until I found the right switch in the router configuration to turn it off. But I don’t know anything about your router.

But WiFi is still flakey. Just moving some furniture can change it. People are full of water, and having bodies change position in a room can disturb it, as well.

My router is provided by ISP company. It’s a default one provided for the duration of subscription.
What is your switch?

Not flakey just susceptible to atmospheric and environment conditions as is any RF signal. Never had any issues playing to any ChromeCast device over the years. I have had certain other wifi enabled devices be a bit iffy but that was down to their poor wifi implementation and old chipsets. Most of my zones are wifi and they dont drop out.

Hello
i have noticed something interesting that when i restart the Roon server, the playback is flawless.
So 3 days ago, i decided to program a Windows scheduled task for rebooting the NUC everyday at 4am and guess what? No issue since! Everything is faster and no interruption during this time.
I don’t understand why because my NUC system seems stable!?
