When will KEF LS50 Wireless II be Roon Ready? [They are now!]

Yes I own a pair of LS50’s II. Very very happy with them. To be honest, I do not think that I am the one who is dramatic. :loud_sound::musical_note::notes::soon:roon :pray:t2:

We are now in the second half of February, a little closer to a possible Roon Ready Kef LS50 W2’s.

Just keeping this alive people, nothing else to see here.

I just received my KEF LS50 wireless II
Running Roon 1.8

Im getting an error in setting up this new Audio device inside Roon…
Roon sees it but " There’s a problem with this device" not certified ?

LS50 Wireless II via AirPlay can be enabled.

Can someone help me with my Roon setup with these new speakers?

thanks

Bruno, bravo for finding the correct thread in the Roon community.

Now for Roon on your Kef LS50 Wireless II’s… they aren’t Roon Ready yet. This misconception has been rather unfortunate and disappointing for many of us here. Send the speakers back or join the waiting game.

Until that time I recommend to use airplay or an external dac.

Bruno, you’ve discovered a whole new industry as the owners of these exceptional speakers await the manufacturer to deliver on their “Roon Ready - Coming Soon” promise. In the meantime E_H summarises your few options using Roon. Personally, I’m using Tidal Connect which is for sure better than Airplay!

Austar amazing isn’t it ?? I’m using Qobuz now but is it a license issue KEF needs to address with Roon… the hardware is sitting in front of me so that can’t be the issue.

But I will say that these KEF LS50 wireless II sound very good

But will not be Great without Roon viable

Cheers

E_H I had not considered putting Roon end point in front of the KEF WII

BUT that would require optical or Coax input… no USB on this model😱

Does anyone think the problem will be resolved with KEF firmware update? Is that possible?

Mourip what are you using to feed the KEFs with on coax ( Raspberry Pi with a hat??) can you elaborate your solution ?

Thanks

Raspberry pi with a converter like this might work, or with a hat

Scroll a bit up and read a comment I made.

If you have an Qobuz account. Use the Qobuz app for streaming music. In the Qobuz app you can use Chromecast. Works great for the time being until the KEF’s are certified for Roon. I heard from KEF customer-service that they will release the 1.4 update in march (2021 :grinning:). Hopefully this also includes the Roon certification.

RJ V yes I’m using QoBuz perfect

Many of your questions have been answered in this long and grumpy thread. Browse through it for more details and speculation and rants.

Roon sets the standard for certification and KEF has to meet it. A firmware update seems like a likely possibility. When I got a reply from KEF Support a couple of weeks ago they suggested that late February could be go-live for Roon Ready. My personal guess is that KEF has been waiting for 1.8 to be released before flipping the switch. My guess is that KEF has been working with 1.8 to be certified on. Total guess but makes some sense.

I use the coax input and am getting very good sound. I have a fanless NUC powered by an LPS and feeding a Mutec +3 USB with coax out to my LS50 Mk2’s. There is an Uptone Audio EtherRegen isolating my LAN connections. I have a Mutec REF10 clocking the Mutec USB and the EtherRegen. There is a good chance that KEF’s Roon Ready bits will not be an improvement for me but I am still looking forward to using it.

First it was February, now it’s March. Before we know it even the Netherlands is halfway vaccinated for covid-19 when Roon is implemented.

Apart from all that, it’s really Tidal/MQA that is dependent on Roon. Qobuz will just send the signal through coax and no further unfolds necessary.
So another one to put to the list.

mourip

thanks for the info on your configuration, I’ll use my Raspberry Pi and hat for a coax connection for the time being.

So im getting the impression that yourself and others believe that a firmware update can solve the compatibility issue. good news

It is just my guess that they would push out a firmware update. Perhaps the speakers are ready to go and just waiting for Roon to sign off? Dunoh…

One way or the other this is requiring some patience :grimacing:

You have more faith in Rutte than kef/Roon … that says a lot

(greetings from A’dam)

Haha. How about having faith in none.

Due to the lack of promised Roon, I want to return my LS50W2. Has anybody else done this? I have contacted both the seller and KEF directly but not heard back yet. I feel KEF should handle this directly and refund the mislead consumers themselves.
