Best people to ask is Eversolo/Zidoo. They are by far the best placed to answer your question. Plus if they are not planning Roon Tested status your enquiry might prompt them to do so.
Roon Tested is good for peace of mind when buying gear to work with a Roon source, but whether Roon Tested or not, any capably designed DAC with USB input should accept output from a NUC.
As long as thereâs USB input, it should able to be recognized.
@Fernando_Pereira Yes, you are right, I have done that on my Topping D90 and Denafrip Ares 2, they are not âofficiallyâ Roon Certified, but they can be detected as âdigital mediaâ when USB input is connected, I manually edit the name.
Being recognized doesnât mean it has been certified and Roon Tested is the only level of certification this device could obtain. As another poster already recommended, you should ask ES if they plan on obtaining Roon Tested certification for this device.
DACs are âdumb.â Unless they have a streaming card, they donât care whats being fed to them. There are Roon users using hundreds of different DACs of all ages (mine is a Naim V1 from 2015) so impossible to assume theyâd all be tested, and for why?
No one said anything about every DAC being Roon Tested. The ES Z8 in particular was asked about in this thread and since Zidoo already has several DACs that are Roon Tested it wouldnât be much of a surprise if the Z8 obtained the same certification. Have a look here. There are already a large number of DACs that are Roon Tested and having more added certainly wouldnât hurt but no one is expecting every DAC in the world to appear on that list.
Yes, of course, but if you look at all of those DACâs on the Ziddoo page, they also have streaming cards in them. My point was nobody should be handwringing over a non-streaming DAC and whether it can be used with Roon or not.
Thatâs exactly my point. All of them are RR devices and yet Zidoo also got a few of them certified as Tested as well.
No one is. The thread starter already stated he was ok with the Z8 not being certified as long as it works and all I did was point out that that particular device could only obtain Tested status anyway. It is up to the mfgs to decide if a DAC is worth obtaining Tested certification and based on Roonâs partner page a fair amount have decided it is.
