Whisk(e)y loving objectivists’ corner

adult halloween offering, Shieldaig Speyside is a Total Wine Spirits Direct offering, which has occasionally been as cheap as $13-$14/bottle. now more like $20. surprisingly smooth and sophisticated.

a house favorite, and a definite Treat.

Sipping the Balcones this evening with varying amounts of water. If you add just a little too much, the other flavours run and hide and the malted barley marches right up and slaps you hard in the face! A most intriguing whiskey…

EDIT:

Whoa, just got a whopping hit of liquorice a few minutes after my last sip! This one is really growing on me.

well now i have to give it a try; with just a sprinkle, there’s a lot going on.

appropriate music for the occasion, in the naughty format, for extra points.

It’s a shame Balvenie pulled “Golden Cask” and replaced it with “Carribbean Cask”. Golden Cask was matured in ex rum casks and truly exceptional. Carribbean Cask is but a poor facsimile…

Oooh, Balvenie Doublewood, a Cognac and an Armagnac besides the Balcones. You are clearly a man with exceptional tastes! :yum:

there’s Calvados hiding behind the Balcones.

I love a nice Calvados too!

please allow me to introduce myself.

Another dram I haven’t tried before. The discounted sale price was too good to pass up.

Big fan of Dalmore, but not seen that one before. Nice one!

A bit if shopping yesterday in prep for holiday guests. I’m looking forward to Jane and Clyde.

I’m not a Scotch guy, but I’ve had this since my dad passed. I’d rather of had a swig with him than the unopened bottle on my shelf today. He liked to “save” things.

Is it anything special beyond packaging? I know there are a lot of scotch guys here so any info appreciated.

It’s got another 35 years in the bottle beyond the 1986 bottling. I know that doesn’t help what is inside…but gotta figure most have been consumed by now

Request to all/any Scotch aficionados:

I started watching a terrific series on Netflix, “Shetland”. It’s set in the Shetland Islands which is an area of Scotland I’m not all that familiar with.

Is there a Scotch Whisky that is specifically distilled in SI? If so can the name(s) be provided? I’m doing searches but so far it’s a bit vague for some.

Any recommendations appreciated.

TIA!

Not sure it’s really definitive but this suggests that there’s only a single distillery there and it’s less than 10 years old. https://scotchwhisky.com/whiskypedia/6794/shetland-distillery-company/

I’m happy to be corrected, and more than half expecting to be :joy:

Yeah I saw that one after posting my query. For some reason the site wouldn’t open on my tablet but I was able to see on my desktop from your link. It seems to be blended only which is a shame. I’ll still keep an eye out for it if they do ship internationally.

Thanks!

Nice to see my home town (Park City, UT) represented here with the High West! Another Park City label is Alpine Distillery, but I’m not sure how wide the distribution is for that one.

My wife and I have been riveted to the “Shetland” TV series. Douglas Henshall has been nothing short of spectacular. We’ve also subsequently discovered lots of Mark Bonnar’s other performances.

“Shetland” is absolutely top drawer TV. Looks like Season 6 just started in the UK, and amazingly is available here through Amazon :sunglasses:. Just made my day!

I am pretty excited about this one. The taste is much to my liking. Bottled at 53,1%. Unfortunately only a very limited amount of bottles is avaible from the small casks.

I am for sure checking out some other relases of the Octave Series (not the Premium Range though - this would be way over budget)

white label Dewars is the standard Dewars bottling, and is quite a nice dram. It’s a blended whiskey, not single malt, but no worse for that. I’m not familiar with this centennial bottling, but the additional 35 years shouldn’t hurt.

open it, maybe add a drop or two of water, and savor with memories of your dad.
