Wiim Amp compatibility

Hi can anyone confirm if the wiim amp can act as a roon endpoint?

Cheers!

Not as a roon ready endpoint.

It is not yet Roon Ready but will work through Chromecast, AirPlay or Squeezebox support which is what I used with the Pro Plus until it was Roon Ready. It worked perfectly, but couldn’t be grouped with other zones, which is fine as it is driving a headphone amplifier

Ah that’s a shame, I will wait until it is (or is not depending on what harmans plans are)

Harman’s plans have nothing to do with it other than paying for more engineers to address the current bottleneck.

I would imagine Harmen’s plans will have a very real bearing on if third party devices get roon certification, I hope they do, but I am certainly not purchasing anything on the hope they will.

I’m not a conspiracy theory advocate so when Harman say it’s a hands off acquisition I’ll believe them.

It really would work very well already with the three protocols supported, though I completely understand waiting until it is fully Roon Ready.

I am sure from the WIIM forums that it is already in the queue, but it seems that there is a lot awaiting certification at the moment, though based on an LinkedIn posting from a couple of days ago, it looks like another batch of devices have been released as Roon Ready that came after the WIIM Pro Plus in mid December.

So it looks like progress is happening with new devices being certified.

I think it was me who posted. I emailed WiiM and was told roughly 2 more months. I bought one as soon as I heard about it. So far I am not disappointed. Several firmware updates have come through so I expect this to come soon as well.

Cool, I’ll keep an eye out for it. Tbh I have no actual use for one right now but dam that’s a sweet price point. Just like topping/gustard et all I am sure prices will creep up pretty quickly though

Wondering about the wiim amp and a roon display through it’s hdmi. I’m guessing it can’t provide a roon display? Or, maybe it can if connected through chromecast, although I doubt it…

It’s an EARC port, which means that it should only carry Audio.
I can see why you would want that though.

Well I got one, I cannot keep hold of money its just a thing! Hooked it up to a pair of naim nSats and a rel subwoofer and have to say its a total bargain.

I have had/used a variety of class D amps, some very good and super expensive some not so much, when a class d does not have the head room, you get a kind of out of control, sound can be most odd, but I am not detecting that at all here, I bet I could run my NBLs with it. Software is amazing stable and quick, running through airplay but hope for proper roon integration soon.

I think it’s just ARC but regardless I guess you would have a situation (currently) where roon would see it as an endpoint via chromecast, and then you would need a chromecast dongle direct into a tv to provide a display. My secondary tv only has two hdmi inputs so is limiting.
Display isn’t a big deal though, it’s sort of rudundent to whatever is being used as a remote. Wish displays were elaborated on a bit more.

Given that Hartman is one of the companies that established Linkplay Technologies, it’s not unthinkable that this will get the some kind of priority😀

Have you tried enabling Squeezebox support in Roon Settings->Setup. On my Wiim Pro Plus I found that to be superior to both AirPlay and Chromecast until Roon Ready arrived.

Hopefully it won’t be too long until it is certified

Sorry does it support LMS then? What a box of tricks, I cannot believe how quickly I was set up and enjoying it.

All of the WIIM devices support LMS I believe and I have used it on the Pro and Pro Plus and they showed up in Roon within a minute or so of ticking the box and sounded great.

These are excellent value and good sounding device and glad that you are happy with yours so far. Tempted to get one that I really don’t need, just for the simplicity of it

I have set it up in my little office space, not had a lot of time with it. I know £300 is some money, but its such a little amount of money for a device like this. The closest thing I have to it is a little nad hybrid digital amp, the sound quality from the wiim is way better leaving aside the myriad streaming options from it.
