I’ve had LCD2’s and LCD-X’s. Audeze absolutely has a weight problem. The bass is abundant with them but it’s not a very “tight” bass, I much preferred the Focal Clear Mg in all areas to either Audeze. Also tried (and still have) the Denon 9200’s. Truly excellent for a closed-back. Then some months ago HiFiMan knocked $1K off the price of the HE1000 V2 and I had to try them. Holy cow, these were the best I’ve ever heard. Fantastic, tight, abundant, and accurate bass. Mids and highs are also to die for. A couple weeks ago they discounted them again to $1399. This is the greatest bargain in the history of headphones. They originally sold for $3K. Idk if the price is temporary or what but I cannot urge people strongly enough to snap these up while they can. The only other headphone I would even consider trying at this point are the Susvara’s, but only if I can get them for a significant discount from their usual $6K.
I’ve gotta say, I’m very, very, very impressed so far!
Their tonality and speed with classical music is sublime, the mids and highs are beautiful and there’s plenty of bass when needed, which was my main concern before buying them.
I’m not too sure they’d be my first choice when listening to rock and pop, but I’ve got more listening to do
But for just over £200 (albeit an ‘open-box’) these are an absolute bargain!
They do benefit from eq when listening to rock/pop (imho). They take a sub bass boost really well because of their low distortion. A boost around 2 kHz is also useful as it opens up the sound.
I think these are ‘HD800 killers’!
The low-end is better on the Sundara’s, and you don’t get the HD800 6-10 kHz treble peak. The soundstage might not be quite as good as the Senny’s, but it’s very, very close.
Very nice and I always found they sound great with balanced cable and get a nice boost from the additional power on offer.
They are an excellent option at the price point
@Martin_Kelly What model is your DAP?
Would you recommend it for balanced listening and sound quality in general?
I’m really happy you’re enjoying your Sundaras!
My only gripe, and it’s a very small one, is that when I play something with a lot of instruments, the separation is not as good as I’d like it to be, and it becomes one big sound rather than a composition of each instrument.
Hi Marcello,
It’s a FiiO M17.
It’s probably the best DAP I’ve ever heard. I think it eclipses the Mojo 2. Plus it has plenty of power to drive almost anything. It’s truly a monster!
I’m really tempted and can’t decide between the m17 and the huge r7, which on paper would be better suited to my needs (I know I asked about the dap, but as I already have the mojo 2 as a portable device, I’m looking for a worthy, not too expensive roon ready desktop option)…
My simple Sundara EQ that fixes most of its issues (you can adjust the LS filter at 105Hz for bass to taste)
Preamp: -8.0dB
Filter 1: ON LS Fc 20.00 Hz Gain 10.00 dB
Filter 2: ON LS Fc 105.0 Hz Gain 2.50 dB
Filter 3: ON PK Fc 35.00 Hz Gain 1.00 dB Q 1.000
Filter 4: ON PK Fc 1500 Hz Gain 3.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 5: ON PK Fc 2000 Hz Gain 4.00 dB Q 2.000
Filter 6: ON PK Fc 3000 Hz Gain -1.00 dB Q 2.000
I own both Marcello. However good the R7 is (and it is very good, and absolutely amazing VFM), the M17 beats it hands-down in the SQ department.
But if you already have/use a Mojo 2, then the R7 would be the most ‘sensible’ option for a desktop solution, IMO.
Thank you, Martin!
I will need some thinking and decide betweene vfm vs sq
No Marcello! You do not need it!
This is a parental advice. Now I will check if you listen to me or not.
Buy it Marcello! If you buy it, then Peter will buy it too
If I buy one, then the FiiO M17.
And then I’m not going to buy anything else anymore. Except maybe the Hifiman HE1000Se, the Focal Utopia and maybe the Esoteric K-05XD.
@Martin_Kelly what cables do you use on your pictures?
They’re from a company called ‘Custom Cans’ here in the UK:
They’re excellent quality, and very reasonable prices too. I use them for most of my headphones now.
BTW, the stock cable with the Sundara is AWFUL!
Fully agree with that statement. Though I think at twice the price, the Ananda cable is worse, though it looks cool.
They look quite similar to my multiple Oidio cables who which I have also found to be excellent
Thank you Martin,
I see they ship to 200 countries. So I can have it shipped to Switzerland too. Normally I’m every 3 month in England, but I do not yet know when I’m there the next time.
