Will the Mojo 2 give justice to Hifiman Sundara?

Ahahahah guys, I’m almost chocking here

Hi Marcella, I own the Audeze LCD Classic’s and drive them with a Ifi Hip-dac 2 and plenty of power / sound very good, not great for a little shy of $200, very good (400 mW output). The Mojo II outputs 600 mW into 600 ohms, you’ll have plenty of power to drive the Audeze’s (and the Mojo II is an excellent choice that I evaluated, based on my usage of the headphones, the cost was too high). I have been contemplating an upgrade to the Gryphon (1,000 mW output) which from what I understand is a big jump in sound quality. At 3X the cost, it should be! I primarily listen to my main system / vinyl & Roon but it’s nice to have those headphones for late night listening. I don’t know if you care about MQA but can attest, to my ears, it does sound marginally superior to other streaming formats. Particularly when as it relates to the sound floor, MQA is very quiet.

Thanks David!
The only thing that makes me consider adding a second DAC amp other than the Mojo 2 is that the volume I have to keep with the Mojo to hear the Sundara with satisfaction is +6/7db out of 9db (which is the max).

Apart from the fact that it does not support balance connection (nor mqa).

I was about to get the Fiio R7 but then I read the super review that @Martin_Kelly wrote on his thread and I’m not sure I want to spend money on a streamer with lower sq than the mojo 2.
I would have gone with the M17 but it’s quite expensive.

At the end of the day, I can choose the R7 for all the features it brings to the table and especially for the amount of power it can deliver.

@Peter_Bruderer I have very bad news for you today…

There is way to have the Mojo accept a balanced connection. As to how much of an improvement this will offer, I cannot say.

Rob Watts has always said that his DAC’s are unbalanced by design.

Well there you have it @Marcello_Bertonazzi

Ignore my post above

@Peter_Bruderer Peter’s obviously too busy listening to his new Sundara’s

I’m so impressed with the Sundara’s, that I’ve been looking further up the HiFiMAN ‘food-chain’.

But you know what puts me off? The warranty. Or lack of it. If I’m going to drop more than £1k on a pair of, say HE100SE’s, I think just a two-year warranty isn’t good enough :face_with_raised_eyebrow:

I am teaching today. Not listen to any music. Only questions from students. When I come home tonight, the Sundaras wait for me! My wife told me, the parcel arrived.

What did you buy?

What do I have to buy too?

I actually just bought two new switches for my office/home.

I ordered the M17 to be used as a desktop DAC amplifier with balanced or high impedance headphones

Well now you’ve ordered a £1500 DAP, you also need the matching headphones. You can’t use a £300 headphone with it. It’ll stutter and cough - the DAP not the cans

Congrats and obviously ignore my very bad financial advice. It was a joke of course

When you consider that for me it all started a few months ago when I decided to buy a turntable and a speaker, and it’s escalated to me buying several cans, the mojo 2 + poly, the Nucleus and now a dap, you’re absolutely right

Thanks for the congratulations and don’t worry about the joke, I get it!

I totally get it my friend. For me it all started with Apple Music and one Sonos speaker

I’m listening now to my ice cold (technically) Sundara’s. What I hear from the 1st second is very impressive. I run them on my desk with the RME ADI-2 DAC fs.

I have to zap now through my favourites playlist.

What you get for this price is crazy.

Enjoy the listening, Peter!

Absolutely crazy value!

After extended listening, I’ve nicknamed them ‘HD800 Killers’. There are pros and cons of each, but for the price & VFM, the Senny’s don’t stand a chance.

I did now listen a few songs with the Sundaras. My impression is, they have a good flow, rythm, it feels right. Maybe it is not all perfect, but it is a very enjoyable listening. And they are brand new!

I agree, not all perfect but very very good? Absolutely (IMO)!
