Describe the issue

six days ago my windows 11 pro installed and update to build 22621.ni_release.2205006-1250 and it seems to have broken roon. I have downloaded the latest install file, uninstalled my existing install and re-installed from from the downloaded file. It still hangs on a blank screen w/roon throbbing logo, but never completes launch. Task manager shows RAATServer, RoonAppliance and RoonServer running with only RoonAppliance showing the slightest activity.

Describe your network setup

spectrum Internet Gig with speeds up to 1000 Mbps, Netgear cable modem CM600, Netgear Nighthawk X6S AC3000 Tri-Band WiFi Router Model: R7900P. WiFi connection to the computer running roon has a signal strength between 92 to 95 percent.

Hey @John_Moorman,

Thanks for writing in and sharing your report!

Sometimes your windows firewall exceptions can be removed with OS based updates, are you able to double check your firewall settings to ensure Roon is listed as a proper exception? Here’s more info:

An easy way to test this is to temporarily disable your windows firewall and see if Roon responds normally. :+1:

No joy. Turning off the firewall has no impact. I verified the port forwarding settings to port 55002 on the servers internal IP address.
Roon, RoonServer, RoonAppliance and RAATServer all show in Task Manager, but the Roon app hangs on launch and nothing can connect to RoonServer. What now?

Another thing that happens during a Windows update is your network can get flagged as public which imposes restrictions, check to see if that is the case. Your network should be Private.

I have verified that my network is Private.

Hi @John_Moorman ,

Do you have a lot of edits made to your database? You can try to set up a fresh Roon install to see if this helps -

  • Exit out of Roon / RoonServer (in taskbar)
  • Navigate to your Roon Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “Roon Server” and “Roon”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old” and “Roon” to “Roon_old”
  • Reinstall the Roon App from our Downloads Page to generate a new Roon folder
  • Verify if the issue persists on a fresh database before restoring the backup

Here is the process outlined from a Windows machine:

All Roon_old on Windows

Ta Daaa!
You, sir, have fixed the problem - Thank You!!

OOPS, spoke too soon.
The Roon app works and I can play music through that, but Roon ARC on my phone can’t find the server, neither can Roon Remote.
Any ideas?

OK, I’ve got it sorted out now.
The reinstall changed my ARC port assignment.
Restoring my latest backup broke the server again. It must have contained the corruption that tanked the server.
Renamed the app data files again.
Reinstalled the app.
Restored an older backup.
Reassigned the correct ARC port.
Uninstalled ARC and Remote apps on mobile devices.
Reinstalled same which then found the server and connected.

All is now good in my little tune universe.
