Description of Issue

Roon Remote is not loading it flashes up then crashes. It has worked flawlessly on this PC until now. There was a Windows 11 upgrade recently.

I have no problems with accessing Roon on my Roon Core computer or on iPad or Android phone

Is there anything being reported in the Windows Event Viewer on the Roon Remote PC for the crash? Thanks

@Paul_Williams In addition to what @Geoff_Coupe requested, a few more questions:

  1. What version (Build number) are your Core and Remotes using? They need to be on the same version to connect to each other. The current Production Build is 1244 for Windows.

  2. Microsoft reset some of my settings during some recent updates. Can you confirm that both your Core and Remote PCs are set to Private network, and also that firewall exceptions are created on both PCs for roon.exe and raatserver.exe (under the Private network column)?

Thank you for your suggestions.

  1. Windows is not reporting anything about the crash
  2. The Core is update 1244, I have uninstalled and reinstalled Roon on the Remote. As it opens that shuts immediately, I cannot check the actual build number.
  3. Both Core and Remote PCs are set to Private network and the relevant firewall exceptions have been created.
  4. Whether this is related to this issue or not, I have noticed that my core isolation is turned off due to an incompatible driver. (I have done a google search on this issue looking for a resolution, but have not yet been able to fix)

Not being able to access Room remote on my PC is an inconvenience rather than critical to my use of Roon. I generally only use the PC for downloading music files, loading them to my core, checking that the metadata is correct and that the album is identified in Roon. I can use my iPad for the latter two functions.

Paul, I am not clear on what this means. Can you please provide some more details?

Under Windows Security, there is Device Security which lists Core isolation as one of its features. Its function (according to the accompanying blurb) is “Virtualisation based security protects the core parts of your device”. The core isolation features are disabled as I have an incompatible drive wdcsam64_prewin8.sys. There is a lot of stuff on google on how to delete this drive that I have not yet managed to do. I don’t know whether this has anything at all to do with my issue with Roon.

I have now managed to fix the core isolation issue. It has not resolved my Roon problem.

Thank you again for those who took the trouble to respond to my problem.

I do not know what the cause of the problem was (perhaps it started out as an incompatibility in the version of Roon Remote I was running on my laptop). However, in the process of uninstalling the app (using the older Windows version of this facility), in order to reinstall it, I was only clicking the top box (Application) and not also the Settings and Database box. I have now done so and fully reinstalled the Room Remote and everything is now working!
