Would a dedicated CD transport be a better option?

How far down the rabbit hole do you want to go?

If you want to play CDs a transport and a nice DAC is the right way to do it. You’ll find, as others have said, diminishing returns with transports however… my Oppo blu-ray player as transport clearly spanked an old Sony ES player. And, even with Schiit claiming a “dirty” clock from my Rega I preferred using the Rega over the Oppo.

But now, after much work, my digital file to streamer to DAC path produces superior sound quality over any of my spinning CD methods.

So, if you’re after better sound quality then invest in that and keep the digital files. But, if you want the interaction of spinning CDs then still get a very nice DAC and get a CD transport that’s “fun” to interact with. Used Rega’s are a great value… I should probably sell mine.
