Welcome to the forums Jon! Thanks for posting - a great selection of albums. The Dust Coda were a standout discovery for me this year, and that album is fantastic - also in my top 10!
Exact order in top ten is not yet clear but should be close to this:
1914: Where Fear And Weapons Meet
The Silver: Ward of Roses
Aquilus: Bellum I
Opera Diabolicus: Death on a Pale Horse
In Mourning: The Bleeding Veil
Empyrium: Uber den Sternen
Archspire: Bleed the Future
Swallow The Sun: Moonflowers
Thy Catafalque: Vadak
Todd La Torre: Rejoice in the Suffering / Vokonis: Odyssey / Necronautical: Slain In The Spirit (had to pick 3 to last spot because could not decide…)
All metal I know This year I really tried to listen as much new metal releases as I could and it took some time away from other genres.
Thank you all for your interesting lists and let’s wish we have also great music year 2022.
I had removed Steven Wilson from my mind.
This was my biggest disappointment of the year but unlike DT and Maiden, it’s a very different disappointment.
This is an album whose genre and sounds are closer to his other project “No Man” and, unfortunately for me, far from my tastes.
Objectively, I don’t have enough knowledge in this type of music to try to make a judgment. Just a personal “I don’t like it at all”.
I don’t know if this will be his new direction. Personally I hope he returns to old habits, but he has to go his own way
Hi, @Daniele_Piancastelli . Yes this is a very different album comparing with others Wilson´s recordings. I also prefer “Hand cannot erase” or The Raven that refuse to sing" or “Grace for Drowing” or needless to say “fear of a blank planet” or “In Absentia” but maybe we are in other time. We´ll see. Next summer we´ll have a new album from Porcupine Tree. Time will say!!
As for No-man music is different. I´m an open mind about music except salsa, reggaeton or Sevillanas. Sometimes I play something of no-man. Even have a playlist in my qobuz lists. as well as Blackfield. Sorry man but think I like them. But also accept your opinion. And thanks for replaying.
It appears that we have a list of metal heads on the Roon forum
This is a great thread and I have discovered The Dust Coda by reading it. This is why I love these forums.

I’m playing a four hour set of favourites from 2021 on New Year’s Day evening from 7pm Eastern onward over on Mixcloud. My DJ handle is DJ Ol’ Nerdy Bastard…
Many thanks to Steven for listing Black Acid Soul and for Rockhound for singling it out for notice. I was unfamiliar with it and Rockhound’s description as “absolutely top drawer” is spot on.
The mail group of 90 people I’m a member of has delivered its top ten chart for 2021, it was the most
diverse year in terms of number of albums voted for.
