880 Constant Server Reboot on Synology 218+

Roon Core Machine

Synology 218+
DSM 6.2.4-25556 Update 2

RoonServer running on USB SSD

Networking Gear & Setup Details

Synology connected to home network via ethernet and generic TP switch

Connected Audio Devices

Testing errors with RaspPi 4, ethernet connected, running Raspbian and latest version of RoonBridge, connected to a SchiitStack via USB. Also confirmed the issue occurs when streaming to a Cambridge Azur 851N, also wired via ethernet.

Number of Tracks in Library

~62k tracks

Description of Issue

After upgrading to 880, RoonServer on the Synology will restart itself every few minutes whether playing music or not (although I can force it to happen by playing any track, with the client losing connection to the server around every 2mins).

Logs show the following error over and over again:

12/17 10:06:51 Critical: scx: in OnExit: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object.
   at Sooloos.Broker.RoonApi.TransportService_2.EndpointToJson(Endpoint ep)
   at System.Linq.Enumerable.SelectListIterator`2.MoveNext()
   at System.Collections.Generic.List`1..ctor(IEnumerable`1 collection)
   at Sooloos.Broker.RoonApi.TransportService_2._update_subscriptions()
   at Sooloos.Broker.RoonApi.TransportService_2.OnThreadExit()
   at Sooloos.SynchronizationContextThread.OnExit()

One adverse effect: After the client regains connectivity to the Server, it takes forever for RoonBridge clients – RaspberryPi and Ropieee – to become available in the endpoints list. They show up fine in Settings → Audio as available endpoint but I can’t stream to them after a reconnect for many minutes.

Captured end point failures here: No Windows / Ubuntu endpoints after 880

Hey @rcrawley,

Thanks so much for letting us know of this.

While the traces you’ve shared show a generic error, they’re not quite sufficient for us to understand what is going on.

Immediately after a restart, could you please grab a set of logs, zip up the entire folder and upload it to our drive?

If you can also share a timestamp (local date & time) that would be really great.
