Tell us about your home network
· everything is host network, all LAN connxns. NAS is DS1525+ with Roon installed in Container Manager (Docker).
Thanks for writing in! Based on your account admin, it looks like your trial expired two days ago. More specifically, it looks like the trial was cancelled manually.
Is this not the case? If you’d like, we can tag our @accounts team to help get you re-set up with a free trial.
I cancelled the trial after seeing support for my issue moved to a forum instead of recieving help from a technician. I need the 2 wks trial to see how Roon meets my needs and integrates into my system - not 2 wks to figure out how to get it to even work with my NAS. With this level of support (rather, lack of it) I’m not sure Roon is a business I want to deal with. Sad for Roon, I was considering a lifetime purchase.
We completely understand your frustration, and we’re sorry the trial ended before you had a real chance to evaluate Roon the way you intended. Wanting your two weeks to actually hear how Roon fits your system, rather than spending them troubleshooting a NAS setup, is entirely fair.
Just in case you’d like to give it another try, we’ve re-enabled a fresh trial on your account, so the clock effectively resets and you can get back to what you set out to do.
On the support side, we want to clear up the impression that you’re on your own here. Posting to our Discourse community is our standard channel, but that doesn’t mean you’re not getting help from our team, we’re actively working your thread, and this is exactly where we dig into technical issues like the one you hit switching Roon Server to your NAS. If you’d prefer to keep things private, just let me know and I can have this thread marked visible only to you and Roon staff, as this is always an option when requested.
Let’s get you up and running on your NAS. If you can confirm the trial is now active on your end, we’ll pick the “account expired” issue back up from there.
I’m out of time to work on this project for now. It involves being able to access my server on NetworkA from NetworkB 200 miles away. At present, I have BubbleIPnP feeding my renderers from MinimServer running on my music server (Synology DS1525+) at NetworkA. I began trying to establish a site to site VPN connection with Tailscale yesterday. It all worked well until it came time for BubbleUPnP to remotely find MinimServer. That didn’t happen, so I have to figure out that solution - and I have to travel now. I plan for my NetworkB renderer to be a Wiim Ultra. Once I establish server/BubbleUp connectivity between Networks A&B & I have the time, I’ll start thinking about Roon again. FYI, not being able to get support over weekends pushes my buttons a bit.
Unfortunately, what you’re trying to accomplish is outside the standard scope of support for Roon.
Roon offers remote connectivity through ARC, but we can’t assist with the granular details of configuring a remote access rig for the server itself. Other users will likely have ideas; we’ll move this to Tinkering where it won’t be subject to topic timers/auto-closure after inactivity and can remain open for comment.
