Since the latest update, ARC is no longer updating/displaying the correct artwork of tracks on the car display (via Bluetooth). In addition, I’m also seeing the same incorrect artwork on the lock screen of the phone.
When restarting the app, the first track will typically display the correct artwork after which it no longer updates as sticks with the artwork of the first played track.
In ARC I typically play tracks that have been downloaded as part of a playlist. Within ARC the tracks are displaying correctly.
Are you able to confirm the following about your experience with this issue?
Do you have any intermittent or changing connectivity when you encounter the issue in CarPlay? For instance, leaving the driveway and switching from WiFi to 4G whilst initiating a playback session in the car. Diagnostics don’t pinpoint connectivity as the culprit, but it will help us to know more about the conditions in which you encounter the problem.
Logs seem to indicate you are both experiencing this with local content (ie. not Qobuz/Tidal). Can you confirm whether you also experience this issue with tracks from streaming services? Additionally, do you have the issue with content you’ve downloaded locally to your phones?
Diagnostics show that each of your phones is warning ARC that the operating system is experiencing memory pressure. It might be worth checking the available space and RAM on your phones in case ARC is slowing due to hardware limitations.
We’ll continue to investigate on our end and keep an eye out for your responses. Thank you again.
I haven’t noticed a connection type as a potential cause. I have the artwork issue when I am away from home and am connected via the wireless network. So there is no switch from WiFi to wireless happening.
I have experienced the issue with both local and streaming content. I have 354GB of 523GB available on my iPhone.
Thank you for getting back to me on this issue.
In response to your questions:
Although I cannot say with absolute certainty, I believe it is quite likely that the first occurrence of the issue was probably a situation in which I started playback and moved from a Wifi to $G connection. When play continued, moving from one track to the next, this was without any doubt a situation where there was a 4G connection only. Also after pausing playback, because the bluetooth connection with the car ended, and later resuming that same playback, the issue continued although there was no change in connection at that time.
I experienced the issue primarily with local content that was downloaded to the iPhone. I have not had the same experience with tracks from Qobuz (I do not have Tidal). On occasion I have experienced an issue with artwork from streaming. However in that case, the artwork, track name and artist would temporarily be displayed correctly, the then disappear and show unknown artist / unknown track without artwork and return again.
In addition I can also add a force quit of ARC and/or reboot of the iPhone has significantly improved the behaviour. I still have seen some occasions of the artwork not updating with change of tracks, but it does seem to correct itself with a new track.
I’m having the same issue. In addition if ARC is open other apps (Messages, calling up Siri etc.) don’t work. If I force quit the ARC app I’m able to use the other apps again.
To answer the other questions:
I’d say 95% of the time, I start playback on 5G and not on WiFi
Most of my content is from Qobuz, although this morning I had the issue with music stored inside of Roon (not local on the phone but local on my server that is not on Qobuz)
Same issue here with iPhone. Artwork would stuck on one album and can only clear it by killing the process. If switch to phone version, it would work fine but going back to carplay, ARC will have the previous stuck artwork.
Some additional information on this ticket. It may be somewhat vague and unspecific, but I hope it helps.
After my initial report, ARC seemed to “settle down”. I had fewer and fewer occurrences where incorrect album art was displayed.
Then when ARC 1.0.40 was released, the issue started occurring more frequently once more. But once more, after having used it for some time, and also connected while on the home wifi for downloading new tracks, it seems to be occurring less and less.
It almost feels as if the artwork needs more time to download…
Some additional observations regarding this topic…
After the latest update of ARC, and following a suggestion made by (@)Suedkiez here, I scrolled through all my albums in ARC. First impressions were good. Artwork was systematically displaying correctly.
I then experienced a situation in which I had poor mobile connectivity. During this time, I stopped playback as I was existing the car, and restarted when I returned. As I mainly listen to downloaded tracks while using ARC, playback of my tracks was never interrupted. However after resuming playback, album art was again not showing.
So it seems as if caching on the one hand does indeed improve correct display of artwork, but it does not seem to eliminate it.
