Description of Issue

Hi - I have been trying for some time to make Arc work.

  1. I now have the RoonArc page under settings reporting that Roon ARC is READY.
  2. For the above I used some troubleshooting tips to add the necessary port forwarding. And to disable IP6 on my BT hub.
  3. I have installed (deleted and reinstalled)Roon ARC on my iPhone
  4. After logging in it says it can see the core.
  5. But the it says Syncing for the first time
  6. But then times-out reporting “Something went wrong while synching to your Roon Core”

Note: I’ve tried this both on the same Wifi and on 5G (remote)
Also restarted the Roon Core + A cold reboot.

Can you help?

Thanks, Jon

Hey @Jonathan_Haughton,

Thanks for your patiecne while we work through each thread. I wanted to follow up here and check in on your status with using Arc. Are you still running into issues here?

Please make sure you’ve updated both your core and roon remote to the latest Roon and Arc build, and let me know how things are running. :+1:

If you do still see this sync error, could you please take note of the date and time the next time you run into it?

I’ll be on standby for your reply.

Hi thanks for your reply. Im still having problems. This is still not working for me (ive just tried again) as-far-as-i-know everything is up to date. The Roon servers says ready. But Arc on my phone - just gets as far as “Online and ready”, but then with a purple (retry button). Any ideas? Thanks, Jon

Hey @Jonathan_Haughton,

Thanks for the update! Can you please, try fully removing Arc from your device, power down and reboot your phone, and reinstall Arc over a stable network? If you could share the specific date and time you run into the error message, that would be helpful as well. :slightly_smiling_face:

As another test, can you see if using the normal Roon Remote app runs into the same issue?

Thanks!

Hi Benjamin,

I have just tried what you advised now (11:15 GMT) 25/03/2023. I deleted Arc / rebooted / then reinstalled. After successfully logging in - I get the message about synchronising for the first time, followed by ‘something when wrong while syncing to your Roon Core.’ I have no problems with the normal Roon app.

Any other ideas, please let me know if you need any other details.

Thanks
Jon.

I have the exact same issue: from a fresh install, the core is immediately identified (green dot), then the message “something went wrong while syncing”.
I stop the app and start over, but this time “searching for Roon core” is displayed indefinitely.
This is over wifi in the house, so no firewall or NAT/ UPnP issue here.
Roon settings confirm that that the core is ready and listening on port 55002.

Thanks for your help

Chris

Hey @Jonathan_Haughton,

Thanks for providing that information. As a next test, can you please temporarily disable your local storage location on your Core? It seems like ARC is coughing on something in your library during sync.

With that, we’re seeing errors specifically around this album: Anjunabeats Volume 16. Is this album already in your local library?

@Chris_Tobogan I would suggest you try the same with temporarily disabling your local library on your core, and see if you’re able to connect.

Thanks!

Hi,
I did disable the library files stored on my core, both through Settings and physically (SD card removal).
Cleaned up the library, but no change unfortunately.

Thanks for your message.

An update:

  1. A have removed the album ‘Anjunabeats vol 16’ from my library - it was only a Qobuz album
  2. I disabled in settings my external hdd
  3. deleted the arc app of my phone
  4. reinstalled arc
  5. logged in ok

6 same message as previous.

any other tips?

Thanks Jon

Hey @Jonathan_Haughton and @Chris_Tobogan,

After updating your cores to the newest build 1244, are you still experiencing the same issues?

Hi. Thanks for your message.

Just rebooted my core. Then deleted and reinstalled Roon ARC. Still the same error after logging in.

I think I’m on the latest version.

Thanks for giving that a try @Jonathan_Haughton.

As a next step, lets see how things run on a fresh core database. Please make a fresh backup before moving forward. Steps to follow below:

  • Stop RoonServer from running in ROCK’s WebUI
  • Navigate to your ROCK’s Database Location
  • Find the folder that says “RoonServer”
  • Rename the “RoonServer” folder to “RoonServer_old”
  • Restart the RoonServer in the WebUI to generate a new Roon database folder
  • On the Roon Remotes, press “Use another Core” and connect to the new database

Before restoring from a backup, check to see if you sync. :+1:

Unfortunately, no change for me…

Finally!
Did start again, and this time ARC did connect to the new database.
I lost some data in the process, but things seems to be back to normal.
Not sure why the previous database was corrupted.

Hey @Chris_Tobogan,

I’m glad to hear things are working for you! Interesting indeed. Did you look at restoring from a recent backup? This could of course bring the issue back, but there’s also a chance you may have a backup predating this issue, and might be able to restore some of your previous data.

Hi Ben,
Unfortunately, the backup makes the issue reappear.
Roon works, ARC not.
The only back up that is immune to this is dating back from 10 months ago, too old.
Kind regards,

Hi folks,
I have not made any changes. However today I opened Roon ARC and it’s working - for the first time I have been able to enjoy my music library away from home. I keep my system up to date so I guess a recent ‘up-date’, has fixed a corruption I had. I hope it keeps working.

Has anyone else had the same results following a recent update?

(fingers crossed)

Thanks Jon
