Description of Issue
Whenever I change a folder name in my roon library audioanalyse gets stuck. The only way out of this is to reboot the core. All the audio files are on a locally attached ssd, sata connected to the core.
So whenever I change for instance:
R:\02 - Download\Pink Floyd\Pink -Floyd The Dark Side Of The Moon (50th Anniversary - 2023 Remaster)
to:
R:\02 - Download\Pink Floyd\The Dark Side Of The Moon (50th Anniversary - 2023 Remaster)
Audioanalyse kicks in (something changed in the library, ok, true, lets find out what) and gets stuck at analysing 7 out of 10 or something similar.
I’m using a Windows11 machine to edit the files on the disk on the core.
On the core it’s mounted as
/dev/disk/by-uuid/14dceb52-95db-42ac-b80d-6a2c064f6a58 /mnt/Data ext4 noatime,nodiratime,defaults 0 2
and it’s shared via SMB to other machines in the network.
This problem started with one of the latest updates of the roon core.Just noticed it about a week ago and at first thought I guessed it was a broken .flac file or something similar. During last night I scanned all the audiofiles in my library with dBpoweramp on corruption (by doing a test-decode). All files decode fine so no corruption.
I could do that but does it make any sense?, this was not happening in previous versions of roon. It has been ‘introduced’ in one of the later roon versions. I’ve been renaming folders on disk after copying them to the roon storage a lot of times. Just to keep the naming in a certain way.
Folder name=artist
Subfolder=album name with all .flac tracks in this folder
Subfolder Art=folder with all artwork.
I’m on a lifetime membership and been using roon since version 1.2 or something similar. So for years.
Thanks for your patience while our team works through each thread. If possible could you share more information and or a screenshot of the symptom you are referring to with audio analysis crashing?
How often are you renaming folders? Are you able to recreate this issue and share the specific date and time?
Sharing your audio analysis settings would be helpful as well. I’ll be on standby for your reply.
Sure I can, here is a screenshot. Just added an album to my library, and after copying it over renamed the folder from Paco de Lucia - The Montreux Years (2023) to The Montreux Years…
Audio Analysis is now stuck on 6 of 8 forever… only way out of this is restarting roon-server.
The waveform when playing any track from this album is there, audio analysis is still stuck and I suspect it to be running on my roon-server by comparing the %cpu.
When I add another album (with stuck audio-analyses in the settings/library menu) the tracks add up, so for instance its at 6/8, add another album with 10 tracks, it shows 16/18 and so on.
Thanks for sharing that information. Our team is investigating things deeper. While we do this, could you also test out first stopping Roon server prior to making an edit? It’d be good to see if one functions properly over the other.
With that, how is your local library connected to your core? I’ll also need more information around your network setup as well, and how your core is connected to your router.
Lastly, could you share a screenshot of your Roon Settings>Storeage?
Stopping roonserver before editing the folders and starting afterwards, by systemctl stop/start roon.service does not crash the audioanalysis.
My core is a Ubuntu HP Elitedesk G6, i5 with 16GB of ram and a sata ssd wich contains my library.
Sata drive mount line in fstab is in my first post:
/dev/disk/by-uuid/14dceb52-95db-42ac-b80d-6a2c064f6a58 /mnt/Data ext4 noatime,nodiratime,defaults 0 2
And as said before:
The directory where the audiofiles are in is shared to the rest of my network by samba. I use a windows11 workstation to edit the directory’s put the files in the right folders etc.
My whole network setup consists of HP-Aruba switches and unifi wifi. The core is direct connected to a switch in the attic, same for my windows PC.
Later tonight I will try to edit the folder name on the storage directly, so not via a smb connection but in command line linux on the disk, just curious what’s happening then.
To clarify, there isn’t any crashing occurring, but more so the track counter on your audio analysis is stuck hanging, even when analysis is complete. So it’s working as intended, but getting stuck in counting.
I’ve submitted a ticket with our developers on this issue, and I will keep you in the loop on any progress.
Tested this on Ubuntu (server 2022 LTS release, server 2023 release) and on Windows server 2022, so two total different setup’s

Not that important since it’s roon-server-side crashing. But for the record, auralic player, several raspberri-pi’s running ropieee

Description of Issue
Whenever I change a folder name with .flac files on the local storage of my Roon server, audio analysis kicks in. Seems reasonable because there is ‘new’ folder discovered.
When I copy over folders with flac files I most of the time don’t like the folder name, so I rename the folder on the Roon mounted storage (local disk), this is the point where audio-analyse crashes.
I reported this bug in march this year also, haven’t heard anything from @support.
Thanks for reopening the ticket, I can add that it also ‘happens’ when I change a folder on the roon-server via rdp.
I just changed:
R:\02 - Download\Abigail Washburn\Abigail Washburn - City of Refuge
to:
R:\02 - Download\Abigail Washburn\City of Refuge
And that results in:
Since there was no reaction from @metadata_support (do they exist?). I decided to do some testing myself. The bottom line is that i’ve fixed it, can’t get it failing again for now.
Before I’m really convinced I have to do some testing but since I’m away for business that has to wait till after september 20th. Also still waiting for @support to pick up the case. There seems to be a ticket according to this thread. That’s the only thing i’ve got as an answer to this date.
I’m on a lifetime membership since 2017 so a long time user and waiting for support since months………
My guess is this is also related to a lot of other threads on this forum from people with big libraries…
Sorry for the long delay in my response. Per my last reply:
The ticket for this issue is still in our development queue, unfortunately I don’t have any updates to share at this time. When I hear of any news to share - you’ll be the first to know!
I’ve split my library in separate root folders, so downloads, sacd, ripped cd etc. At first this seemed to solve the issue of renaming a folder within one of these subfolders but it isn’t. It still happens that audio-analyse gets stuck when I rename a folder. I’m pretty sure I’ve not a single broken file in my library, I did run a test decode with dbpoweramp on my whole library, no errors.
To keep this topic alive @support anything new?
Just for testing, tried the same with rock installed on a nuc13, same behaviour. Renaming folders on the storage causes audioanalyse to ‘kind of crash’.
