Audio devices disappear on Roon Server and then re-appear (even after fix)

Hello everyone,

This thread is a continuation of our previous thread:

We are merging the remaining active reports into this thread so that we can continue troubleshooting in a more focused manner.

But really though.
This last update has completely broken my system for days, and there isn’t even a good way to rollback.
This is getting as bad as Sonos.
Can Roon as least offer a rollback path to more stable versions e.g. 2.53 until they confirmed they’ve stopped breaking the software they’re claiming to fix?

Can we get an update on a potential option to rollback, hotfix/test build with the previous config–something–while Roon figures out what’s going on?

I deeply enjoy Roon, but the longer you leave users with systems you broke (while still charging them) and not saying a thing, the more incentive there is to move on to something that actually works. Even lower spec’ed options are still better if they actually work.

Lost literal hours over the past week trying to get zones just to play music after they keep dropping presumably to memory leaks. Simple things like switching playlists can take 5-10 minutes between repeated drops and needing to restart the entire system to see if it’ll play nice for a bit. If Netflix or Youtube had a five minute buffer per play they wouldn’t exist, and their media is typically much longer.

Given that there are obvious and immediate solutions to address this, if Roon support isn’t just sitting on their asses after breaking our systems, it would be appropriate for them to mention so and provide some form of update. Been tuned.

Feels like pissing into the wind at this point.
I switched to the early access build (1566) and at least can play music again.

Awesome that Roon engineering is at least working on this and rolling out some kind of fixes.
Pretty piss poor support to keep ignoring people asking for help to the problems Roon caused and have solutions for.

Early access is worth trying, and then freezing/saving the image for the next time Roon support craps the bed and charges people just to ignore them.

Can we get a Roon+ option for an extra 5$ a month where we get badges for how long our issues have gone unaddressed?

I have ended up with two threads on his issue that should be consolidated in this new thread.

:waving_hand: Hello everyone,

As mentioned before, you’ve been added to this thread because our review indicates you’re still experiencing audio devices disappearing and reappearing, even after the recent fix. We’re truly sorry

We’ll use this space for focused troubleshooting to uncover the root of the remaining issue and resolve it for good. I want to thank you in advance for your collaboration on this.

Please stay tuned for the next steps we’ll share shortly.

We understand the desire to roll back to the previous build; it would indeed simplify things for everyone involved. That said, as we’ve communicated multiple times, downgrading
simply isn’t an option: we are not set up to support it. To keep things moving forward productively, we kindly ask that we set this request aside and focus on the troubleshooting her :folded_hands:

Nobody wants to downgrade – not really. But, there’s an issue that has been going on for nearly two months now, introduced in a previous update, that often makes Roon frustrating or impossible to enjoy.

What users want is for that not to be their problem. I’ve invested more hours in troubleshooting Roon issues than I have in several hobbies that I actually enjoy. The idea of doing more to troubleshoot a problem that has been going on for months and has already been ‘solved’ once (according to release notes) sounds more like work than anything else.

What makes this problem so difficult that it hasn’t been fixed so far?

Because of this issue and how poor support has been since the acquisition, I’m close to giving up on Roon. As the saying goes, “all good things must come to an end.”

Today, apart from a couple of initial glitches, I’ve had problem-free playback, which I’ve noted on my own thread here (link).
[Yesterday I installed EarlyAccess 2.56 / 1573 on my Windows 11 13i7 NUC.]

glitch glitch glitch. problems all over this now whereas at least playback was functional.

@beka This was posted ten (10) days ago. This issue is still ongoing – I just had a zone drop on me, stopping playback, and reappear – but I’ve seen no additional troubleshooting or progress. Please advise.

I’ve had RoonServer not starting (although it’s set up exactly as it has been for years now) after the nightly reboot of my NUC…
…then when I log on to the NUC remotely, I have to start Roon, then wait, then (sometimes) start RoonServer.
And then I have to wait minutes before any Zones appear.
Eventually they do appear, but I can’t make anything play on the ‘Remote’ device (laptop), so I have to re-remote-login to the NUC & then press play, then everything works…
Once playback has actually started (on the latest EarlyAccess) it’s now flawless, except for one early glitch earlier today.
But the whole system is now unreliable and unstable.
And yes, we’re all still waiting for the promised fix…

A post was merged into an existing topic: Roon lost control of the audio device (ref#US8SV3)

How long is this now, 3 months? Crashing when doing anything other than playback and crashing anyway after a while no matter which system I use. Updates to this please!

FYI - my entire thread has now been changed to a ‘Personal Message’ and all other participants have been removed.
The stated intent - make of this what you will - is ‘to focus more on individual / specific people’s problems separately’…

Makes total sense if the causes are different, rather than everyone yelling in a crowd.

It’s what some of us did with ARC in EA recently, as you know, and working directly with devs on particular problems and testing specific test versions without unrelated interruptions was much more efficient and delivered solutions.
