Can't access Roon Nucleus One internal storage on PC

Description of Issue

I am unable to access the internal SSD in my Nucleus One from Windows Explorer. I have enabled SMBv1 as well as insecure logins but it still won’t connect. Is the correct location \NUCLEUSONE\Data\Storage\InternalStorage? I am able to load music by dragging and dropping but this isn’t workable since Roon has created multiple additional subfolders so the files are no longer organized the way i had them.

FYI, this is not necessary. Roon OS has supported SMBv2 for a long time.

Good, this is necessary on current Windows

Yes, but with two backslashes at the beginning, but probably you did that anyway. (The forum software uses the backslash as an escape character, so if you want to see two you must enter three on the forum)

What is the error you are getting. Screenshots of what you are doing and seeing would help

Hi @Joseph_Sayut,
Thanks for reaching out to ask us about this issue. Like @Suedkiez said screenshots of the error you’re getting are needed to be able to help you out here. Once we know what error you are getting we will be able to help you out.

You don’t put the address into the Search field of File Explorer; you put it into the Address field…

Not sure. The background window is indeed a search result, but the foreground message does indicate an attempted network access. Quite confusing, maybe @Joseph_Sayut can clarify what exactly he did there.

thanks, but i did have it in the address field.

One possibility is that your router doesn’t provide network names. In this case, use the IP address of the Nucleus. You can find it in the Roon Settings > General, I think. (Can’t check right now).

Then try \\<IP_address>\Data\Storage\InternalStorage

I got a little further using the IP address. It asked for username and password to which I used Guest for both, but then i still got the same Windows cannot access message with the unspecified error.

Did you use Guest or guest? The latter should work.

With Windows 11 Home and the 24H2 update, as well as some other Windows variants like Pro, Microsoft does not allow you anymore to connect to shares that use guest/guest, at least by default. You have to reenable this.

Although usually the message is a little bit different, but try this:

I spoke to technical support at Henley Designs, the UK distributor for the Nucleus One, who are also now aware of this issue. I was on the phone for over 20 minutes. the gentleman was very helpful. However, they have exactly the same issue and cannot access the internal storage from Windows file manager.

I assume a lot of people will have this issue. will an update be issued or a solution provided?

I tried both
\<IP_address>\Data\Storage\InternalStorage
\NUCLEUSONE\Data\Storage\InternalStorage

I did not have the same issue when the CORE was running on my desktop PC

I am asked for a password, my Roon account password does not work.

Please see the post by @Suedkiez above and follow the link to his post that explains that Microsoft has tightened security and how you can address this and gain access to ROCK/Nucleus systems again.

You might also let the Technical Support at Henley Audio know about this…

Please explain how? Henley Audio are following this thread.

It’s a hyperlink - click it.

That gets you to his original post. In it is a Microsoft article that explains how to gain access, so click that link and read the article. Start at step 6.

I had this very issue a while back when I bought a new laptop with the latest Windows installed. Here is the link to my topis that finally resolved the issue. It might help.

New windows PC does not allow mapping to ROCK - Support - Roon Labs Community

Yeah, same issue but Microsoft has now* a better page to explain it, which is the one I pointed out above.

* Because they now pushed this on all Windows 11 users

Suedkiez, your Microsoft instructions worked and I now have access! Thank you and everyone else for your input.
