Description of Issue

I just downloaded Roon, created an account, setup for a free trial, and after double clicking on the Roon dmg file, I moved it to the Apps folder. I then ejected the Roon dmg file.

After starting Roon, I get a screen that says choose your Roon core with two options; find my Roon core or set up a Roon core on this Mac. I choose set up Roon core on this Mac and click on the Use this Mac button. This takes me to another screen that says Login or Sign up. Since I already signed up and started a free trial, I choose Login. That opens a browser page with an option to select my account. I select my account and a dialog box pops up asking if I want to allow this page to open Roon. I select Allow, and it sends me back to the Roon app and the same choice to Login or Sign up. After selecting my account, I was expecting to be taken back to the Roon app for the next steps in setting up Roon, but it won’t go beyond the Login or Sign up screen.

Meant to add I followed all your troubleshooting steps on the help center for installing Roon on MacOS. Nothing helped.

In the case of my issue (Can't Start Free Trial On MacBook) with not being able to get past the login screen to even start an install, I am still in the login loop. How you were able to resolve your issues here I can’t try because I don’t have a database to refresh because I can’t get past the first step to install anything! I tried different browsers and computers and no luck. Oh, but they put a $1 charge on my card to verify billing method for after the free trial, so of course, that part of their system still works.

Roon offers free trials to wow you with their product and get you hooked, but it’s having the opposite affect on me. May have to stick with JRiver MC.

Hey @Tim_E80S,

Ben with the support team here - thanks for writing in! I’ve split your response and moved it back to your original thread for clarity purposes, and to make sure your original thread receives proper attention.

If you can, please fill out the rest of the necessary system info from your OP. How is your core connected to your network? Please hardwire it while troubleshooting as wifi is prone to cause you issues. We break this down in more detail via our network best practices article:

If you pull Roon up on another remote device (say your phone or tablet for example) and login, does the same issue occur? Note that you’ll need to download Roon from the app store on whatever device you test this out with.

I’ll be on standby for your reply. Thanks! :+1:

With full skepticism, I scrounged up a USB-C to ethernet adapter (thinking, great another adapter hanging off my MacBook) and tried again. Roon loaded, and I populated the library. I’ve removed the ethernet adapter, went back to wi-fi, and started Roon again. All is well and no issues playing hi-res, 24/192 FLAC files from my NAS. Although I very much appreciate your help, I have to say it’s silly that Roon wouldn’t initially start up over wi-fi. I didn’t have this issue with JRiver MC, Audirvana Studio, or Plex.

It would be nice to add this hard wired tip to your help center for the MacOS installs section (https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/installing-roon#Installing_Roon_on_macOS); it would have saved me a ton of time and frustration.

Hey @Tim_E80S,

I’m glad to hear you were able to get things sorted out! Although I would recommend not to use your Core device over wifi. It is certainly not a requirement to keep it hardwired, nor does it require a hardwire connection during setup.

No matter, happy listening! :notes:
