So many issues with my Roon Remote app on the IPad that I am looking for an alternative when things are playing up.
What I am looking for is a cheap streamer that I can use to stream Tidal to my amp. I would like to use my Ipad to control it.
As it will be a back up solution I dont really want to spend a lot. I quite like the look of the BluOs app so maybe even head in this direction.
Any guidance appreciated
The Wiim Pro looks like it will do the job. No need for the Pro Plus I dont think.
So with a streamer basically connect by Ethernet cable to my Network switch and thats it?
I keep waiting for Roon to sort the IOS remote app issues but its been around 8 weeks now so patience is wearing thin, not sure how much longer I can put up with it
I think that as it’s cheaper for temporary usage and will perform the same. Bluesound nodes are about £250 more and BluOS app really isn’t all that. Having used it in the past on a node 2 and NAD Amp I can say it’s not particularly great and they break a lot of stuff with updates and support is bad. Wiim so far have been very good and are adding new features quite often. Also Wiims are all accessing the new hires files via Connect or their own app which Roon and Blusound don’t currently.
I was going to give Roon another couple of weeks to solve the issues but for £149 I may just pull the trigger now. In hindsight I would have bought one weeks ago
Another for the WiiM Pro should work for you as the Pro Plus has a upgraded DAC. I am using the Pro Plus on my AVR, as it has a better DAC then the Denon.
Another option few talk about are the refurb mini pc’c that are available. I prefer HP but there should be Lenovo available as well. Priced like a Wiim Pro (maybe less) and more flexible.
He is after a streamer for Tidal to to use instead of Roon this isnt really that, this way he gets remote control via Tidal Connect or Wiims own app. Not that flexible at all given Wiim supports all the main streaming services, has Spotify Connect, Chromecast, Airplay, Squeezebox and Roon support.
Not sure if we are on the same page, but RoPieee — especially since is now a single release with all of the formerly separate RoPieeeXL features — serves to support, outside of Roon:
