Chromecast burn-in on plasma display

I agree that the “Now Playing” screen is definitely not a “Screensaver” - even though that’s what Roon calls it (see the list of keyboard shortcuts accessed by the link at the top right of the Settings screen).

I asked for a true screensaver mode over two years ago. Hopefully it’s on the list of things to do as part of the UI changes that are in development.

Please Improve "Screensaver" Mode

I just discovered today that Roon has a so-called “Screensaver” mode. I note a few things about this: For a “screensaver” mode, every element on the screen is fixed in Roon. A true screensaver (such as other players have) move the elements about the screen every now and then. I note that @brian has said that there are plans to have a display-only mode for the Chromecast. I hope that this will introduce a true screensaver mode. Not only is it needed for Plasma displays, but with the introduction of OLED screens in TVs, the risk of burn-in is once again back on the agenda in spades.

Chromecast Sample Rates?

Yeah, you could. We are planning to add a way to use a Chromecast in a display-only capacity. Most of the work is done, but we still have to build the configuration management that lets you link a cast device to an arbitrary zone in a display-only capacity. The cast device doesn’t care if we play audio or not…we can just as easily launch it + have it do pure display of metadata while the audio plays elsewhere.
