Connected Audio Devices

DACs of various brands connected to Roon clients (Mac’s)

Description of Issue -

What is the exact port forwarding error message you see in the Roon Settings → ARC tab?

Cloned an iMac onto a new Mac Mini, now running as two separate computers. But, when I go into Settings in my Roon remote on either computer, the Audio devices listed under This Mac are messed up. First, the only audio devices available on the iMac was the audio devices connected to the Mac mini. After rebooting everything, including the ROCK, I first started up the iMac Roon and everything was on in order, but then the audio devices showing up on the Mac mini was the devices on the iMac. What is causing this mixup, and how can I fix it?
Thanks,
Elling

Cloning moves files that are / should be unique to a single machine.

Exit Roon on the remote and delete the Roon library folders like here:

There is also a Roon file /Users/USERNAME/.rmembid (note it starts with a period and is therefore by default hidden) that should not be cloned to a different machine. Delete it (see the internet for how to make dot files visible in Finder)

To move Roon, make a backup on the old machine, install fresh on the new machine, restore the backup. You may also want to exclude these folders and files from Time Machine etc.

Thanks a lot for the advice, will try it. Not sure what you mean by backup though since my Roon core is residing on a separate NUC ROCK? Is there a local backup on the remote iMac?

First of all, I posted the wrong backup help link earlier, I replaced it in the previous post. Should have been this: https://help.roonlabs.com/portal/en/kb/articles/backup

Second, you are right, there is no separate local backup, but the backup also contains app settings, I think. I also use a ROCK and at one time moved my Roon remote from my old Windows machine to my new Mac. I created a fresh backup from Roon on Windows, installed Roon on the Mac, and restored the backup - and as far as I recall, this moved all my app settings over (some of them are not global but apply per-remote). But it was a year ago and I can’t say I’m 100% sure :slightly_smiling_face:

In any case, if you just start over with a fresh remote install on the new computer and don’t restore a backup, at worst you will have to redo some per-app settings such as sort preferences and the like.

Nevertheless, be sure to have a current backup at all times, anyway

Seemed to work; thanks!
