I’m running into exactly the same problem. I’ve confirmed that the machine_id of the remote and the core are the same and is most likely the culprit as others have discovered. I’ve also tried creating a new user on the system but that doesn’t change the machine_id either. Any suggestions here would be great as it seems like this is something that is happening on more than one specific configuration.
Hi @edacquay,
Welcome to the forum! I have split your post into it’s own thread so that I can better assist you.
Can I please ask for the following?
- What is your Core machine specs?
- What is the Remote machine specs?
- Can you upload a log-set from both Core and Remote to Dropbox / Google Drive? You can access your Roon logs from both by using these instructions. If you don’t have Dropbox / Google Drive, just let me know and I can provide an alternate upload method.
Thanks!
Hi @noris,
The machine running the Core right now is a MacBookPro14,3 (15" MacBook Pro) and the Remote is a MacBookPro16,1 (16" MacBook Pro) and they are both running macOS Catalina. I can provide more details if you let me know more specifically what you want.
As for the logs, I don’t use Dropbox or Google Drive so an alternative to upload the logs would be handy. Do you want the RAATServer logs as well as the Roon logs?
Thanks
Hi @edacquay,
I have just sent you the alternate upload link via private message.
Sure, please send me RAATServer logs as well in case those are helpful. Thanks!
Hello @edacquay,
I have spoken to the QA team and we have a few questions, can you please let me know:
- Have you previously used Time Machine backups to restore the Roon database at any point in time?
- Do any of your Macs affected by this issue have a Touchbar?
- Are you using just one network interface on both of the machines or do you have multiple active?
- Can you open Terminal on both Macs and type in
ifconfig
and share a screenshot of the output from both (please label which one is the Core and which one is the Remote).
Hi @noris,
Here are the answers to your questions:
- I have never used Time Machine with either system
- Both systems have a Touch Bar
- Both systems usually use the WiFi interface and they sometimes also use a VPN interface
- ifconfig output:

Hi @edacquay,
Thank you for providing the requested information. I will send you via private message a further troubleshooting technique that we can try.
I have the same problem - looking at the logs the core and remote have the same machine ID and the local devices on the roon remote do not show up, just the ones on the core.
Hello @skingers,
I have followed up via private message.
Hello @edacquay,
I wanted to reach out and let you know that we released Roon 1.7 Build 571, which includes some improvements that we believe should help here. Please give the update a try and let us know if it helps!
You can read the full release notes here:
Thanks,
Roon Support
