· The Nucleus boots up and I can connect to it in the Roon app without issue, but I have a question about configuration/storage/attached devices
Describe the issue
I just bought a Nucleus One. I have over 10 pages of instructions. Much of it seems contradictory and confusing. I installed a Samsung SSD. I now want to format the SSD. I can't. The Nucleus Web Administration Interface tells me to use Settings>Storage. I click the IP address. No such animal. I currently run my Roon Core on a MacBook Air. That is all that shows up in Settings>Storage. Is there a simple and straightforward step-by-step setup that works? Obviously, I am not a retired software engineer. Thanks for your help.
As Stefan pointed out, it looks like you are still running the server on your MAC, I would shut that server down (log out and make sure it is shut down fully on the MAC, i.s. not running as a service in the background). Then see below for next steps.
If you tried the IP and it is not connecting I would check your firewall settings on the MAC to make sure it is allowing a connection:
You should also make sure that the IP assigned to the Nucleus is in the same subnet as your MAC:
Once you can get to the WebUI, you can then format the SSD that you installed.
Then after getting the ssd formatted log in to the Nucleus through Roon:
Thanks for reaching out. I am looking over your account diagnostics and it looks like the Nucleus One hasn’t been active yet. Is the unit turned on (power button glows)? Since you have a Nucleus One, the correct IP would be http://nucleusone or http://nucleusone.local , or the IP address of the Nucleus itself. You can also see if the Nucleus shows up as a connectable device if you go to Roon settings → General → Disconnect from your Roon Remotes. Please let us know once you are able to access the WebUI, thanks!
First, thanks. I turned off the MacBook Air with the Roon Core. I then used my ipad to open Roon, I de-authorized the MacBook and authorized the Nucleus One. That worked. I now Roon and Tidal. Next step is to access the Web Admin Interface to format the internal harddrive. In the meantime, I have music. Thanks. And my blood pressure thanks you all, too.
It seems that I formatted the Nucleus One’s internal hard drive. Internal Music Storage shows OK. But it is not responding and does not show up on my Finder. Roon gives me this message: Nucleus Internal Storage. (is) Watching for new files in real time. Force rescan = Zero. No file to add. So, how can I see the Nucleus One’s internal hard drive and copy my music files to it? Thanks.
The internal storage of the Nucleus won’t automatically appear in Finder. To access it, you’ll need to manually enter the Nucleus’s network address in Finder. @Geoff_Coupe linked you to the article that walks through the steps. That guide should help you get connected.
If you run into any trouble, feel free to let us know. Including screenshots of what you’re seeing can help us assist you more effectively.
I tried step 3 five or six times. My music is stored on my MacBook Air, I am supposed to find a file for Roon to copy. The page is empty. No file. Update, Roon on my iPad is empty and froze the iPad.
Can you please share a screenshot of what you’re seeing in Finder? That will help us better understand what’s going on since it’s difficult to diagnose the issue based on description alone.
This is getting way past my computer knowledge. I’m just going in circles. Is there someone in Los Angeles/San Fernando Valley who I could hire to set this up?
You’re entering the smb://nucleus into your internet browser. The browser isn’t the Mac Finder. The launcher for the Finder is on your Mac dock on the very left, with this icon:
