Does Apple Music now support 192/24 FLAC?

Just saw an Apple Music commercial on TV that included a small-print sentence referring to 192/24. Went online and see that Apple Music now may support hi-res FLAC.

Is this true? Has anyone tried it on Roon?

Didn’t think to check to see if Apple Music was available as a service within Roon. Guess I got confused about some legacy/purchased music from iTunes that Roon found.

They have 24/192 ALAC. As they are using their own sound formats. AAC and ALAC.

And even with Apple Music itself. Depending on how you listen to it. Most of the time it’ll be 256 kbit AAC. Getting lossless or hi-res out of Apple Music is quite a chore.

And no. Roon has no support for it :slightly_smiling_face:

Eversolo streamers have supported hi-res on Apple Music for a while.

That’s because it uses the Apple Android app so is working like any Android phone and isn’t integrated. But that might stop as it’s using an old build of the app now and they can’t update as Apple stated to not support Rooted devices and the Eversolo reports as one.

Aren’t all Android Music players rooted to some extent? That would include Fiio,Hiby annd many others . A lot of people gonna get pretty angry if all of a sudden down the road they cannot play Apple Music on their Android players.

That’s not the same as Rooted.
Rooted normally implies the ability to run things as root user, and this is mostly stuff that Google has disallowed in Android.
For years I rooted every phone I had and then stopped, because I could do almost everything I wanted on an unrooted phone. Often things like banking apps will not run on rooted phones as there are trust issues with MITM potential.
That does not seem the same to me as what companies like FIIO and HIBY are doing. I don’t know enough about what Eversolo are doing to comment on that.

No they are not as they use the app store like standard Android. Eversolo does not. Yes customers will get angry when Apple drop support for that version of the app. Anything before 4.7 is ok afterwards wont work. They also pretty close to stock android for most of their os its just mods to the sound part. Eversolo isnt stock at all. Its why they added the â– â– â– â–  Apple Web kit as well but thats only AAC and is pretyy basic like what HifiRose added to their streamers.

I’m running 4.81 Apple music on eversolo and it works fine.

Hmm is this installed from their repository or sideloaded. Reading the thread on their forum, they might have patched it to get round it which is good.

I did not sideload . I used repository .

Well it looks like the sorted out getting round the problem then, which is good news.

It looks like Apple Music has made changes that potentially support FLAC for users. It was a reminder that while it does work, some supported devices don’t truly support 192/24 FLAC.

For example, SONOS appears to still support Apple Music natively, but their hardware doesn’t go up to 192/24. That isn’t true for Bluesound streamer, but I don’t configure my Qobuz to it, I do it in Roon.

Probably made this question a bit mute, apologies for causing a fuss

The solution that would make me the happiest is if Apple came up with Apple Connect like Spotify and Tidal have.
That would solve the ridiculous way people who care about audio quality get Apple Music in high resolution.

You’d think, if anyone could do it, with their resources, Apple would. Makes me think they’re not interested in doing it.

They do it’s called Airplay. They are not going to ditch that. Maybe one day they will make it lossless and hires capable.

Ha ha I wrote those exact words and deleted it as being too snarky. Respect Bother Simon

AirPlay does not work like Spotify and Tidal Connect.
You can close the app out with Spotify and Tidal. With Apple Airplay it doesn’t handoff to server over the internet. You close the app the music ends.

It does handoff just to their own devices as is always the Apple way.

To add some context, my hope that someday there will be an option for Apple Music to integrate within Roon like Qobuz does.

I don’t add my Qobuz account login into my Bluesound System. It is being driven by my Mac Mini Roon Server.
