I added new music files to the Core (Sonic Transporter/Storage/Music/Flac). BluOS is seeing them but Roon is not. Is there a refresh process I need to run? If not, what is keeping Roon from seeing the files when BluOs can?
My music files are stored on the SonicTransporter (linux).
The path displayed on the Windows PC is Network>Storage>music>flac.
The flac folder contains all the album folders.
The new folder was inserted here adjacent to the other music folders.
I’ve confirmed the music information using properties and MP3Tag.
It is formatted similar to the other music folders and BluOS sees it within the music shares.
Issue is resolved. Next to the Music Folder in Settings > Storage are 3 dots. When you click on them, the first option is Force rescan. That added the new albums to Roon. That’s analogous to rebuilding my music library in BluOS when I add music files.
Is Roon designed to do this automatically?
Normally, Roon will scan the folders on the Core continuously (that’s what the “watching for new files in real time” message means).
Your Core is on a SonicTransporter, and I would have thought that Roon should also scan the folder in real time as well. See what happens the next time you add albums to your Core.
Some NAS system do not report changes to their filesystems to Roon in real time, so for these folders, you can set up an automatic rescan interval in the storage settings. However, this option is not available on the default Music Folder in a Roon Core.
Yes, there is no automatic scan for the default music folders where I have my files.
However, while rebuilding the music library takes several minutes in BluOs, the forced rescan was almost instantaneous. It won’t be an issue going forward, now that I know is necessary when I add music.
Though I know that Roon is supposed to automatically pick up any changes to the music folders, I have found that, with my SonicTransporter and attached usb3 exfat drives, it does not. I always have to force a rescan. I’ve never bothered to investigate since the solution is so simple, so I don’t know why this is the case.
