DSD512 option not showing up as a choice in ROON

Question, I am taking USB out from my Sonore UltraRendu then to my LKS MH-DA004 DAC. ROON allows me the upsampling choice of DSD64 & DSD 128. If I take the USB out from my UltraRendu and feed it into my Ultradigital, then out i2s to the LKS, Roon offers me the options of DSD64, 128 and 256 upsampling.

My DAC can do DSD512, but no option is shown. Does Roon only allow selections of what the core is safely capable of, or is it picking it up from Rendu/DAC?

Do I need to clear a setting somewhere? My core is a Sonictransporter I5. Just want to know what is ultimately needed if I really wanted to upsample to 512 without filters to a single endpoint

I updated the firmware on the Amanero board, still don’t have the ability to see the option for selecting DSD512. Any suggestions as to what I am missing? Does Roon limit the options to the ability of the Core?

Here’s the DAC diagnostics while playing:

Which version of Amanero firmware are you running? Is it 2006be11 or newer?

What are the USB VID PID values?

It’s firmware_2006be11

I would start by erifuing the DAC can play native DSD. It sounds like it is limited to DoP.

Reading their specs it pretty much says you need Windows and the driver to get dsd 512.

I see other user on Headfi using this same DAC/firmware upsampling to DSD512 using a NUC and Roon and I believe they are running Linux:

I posted the same question in that thread and the Roon forum as well. They too are using i2s or USB to the LKS DAC. I must be missing something here.

Where can I get a native DSD512 file to play?

I figured it out with help from Andrew Gillis!

Need to do this in the Sonicorbiter area for Roon:

That is showing DoP not Native, or did you switch it to Native?

Switched it to native…that image is from Sonore’s webpage showing what the interface looks like…

Finding much of a difference? Using Roon I have one DAC that sounds best at DSD128 (ESS chip) and another at DSD256 (AKM chip) and one that PCM sounds better (Schiit).

If you meant those rates compared to DSD512, that’s interesting. A coworker also told me DSD256 sounds better than DSD512 for an AKM-based DAC, and there’s even a technical explanation for it. I need to look into this some day.

Hi Pete,

Yes I found it interesting as well. I used to just go to the highest rate until I ran across a post of Jussi from Hqplayer talking about the highest rate may not sound the best and started experimenting. If I can find the post I’ll Pm it to you.

Cheers

Unfortunately my core won’t play 512 without hiccups. I just wanted to see how to enable it.

Funny you mention an AKM as I was looking at this:

I currently have this:

Enable Parallelize Sigma Delta modulator

It’s enabled…My Sonictransporter I5 is a first generation model.

Trying to discern in another thread as to how to build a MOCK that will handle upsampling to 512. Wondering if I were to add HQ player in the mix if an I7 will suffice, or not?

ROCK cannot run other software on the same system. So, if you wanted a “one box solution” to running RoonServer and HQPlayer, then you need to use Windows, Linux.

As a point of reference:

To get the best sounding filter, imho, (ASDM7EC) running smoothly at DSD256, I am using a desktop i7-9770k, helped by an NVIDIA EVGA 1070ti Graphics Card for extra processing offload.

I would ask Jussi for advice before purchasing equipment.

Thank you. Who/where is Jussi?

He is the author of HQPlayer and is active on the forum, @jussi_laako

Thank you again. Today I had the pleasure of comparing 44K upsampling to both 256 and 512 and it was a night and day difference.

I7 upsampling 44K to DSD512 may be good enough…

Decisions…

Andrew has already told me that he suggests his i9…trying to see what I can do to avoid getting divorced

If SGC had an I7 still, I would have bought it
