Sorry first attempt for tech support I messed up, hit enter rather than shift enter. So start again.
Roon runs on Dell Optiplex 3060. CPU is i7-8700T. Windows is 11 Pro. All updates are current. library is on QNAP TS-453A NAS. Output from computer is to Sonos Port. All Sonos speakers show in audio portion of Room settings. All are enabled via Sonos streaming. No issues with zones.
I usually listen to selected genre, usually genre called Jazz. Use shuffle to play. First screen is the genre screen with the correct image. Then click on the actual playing item image in lower left corner. So what I expect to see is image of album art while each track is playing. Starts out ok. At some point, I can't be specific, the image reverts to the genre image, and usually stops playback. But sometimes keeps playing, eventhough the player control at bottom shows nothing playing. Sometimes while playing, screen goes to the Roon image (half circle, showing action) while still playing, sometimes stops playing while this is happening. Sometimes goes back to track playing, but image is the genre image, not the track image. Usually, just stops playing, and goes back to the genre image.
I have reinstalled Roon a few times, and issue remains. I can play my music, but have to pay too much attention to the interface, either to restart playback, or to return to the track image rather than the genre image.
Describe your network setup
Modem is xfinity, no visible model number
Router is Netgear R-7800. Netgear 16 port switch. Wireless network is Ubiquiti access points. Most Sonos speakers are hardwired rather than wireless. The Sonos port that is interface between computer running Roon and Sonos speaker is through wired ethernet through the switch
In diagnostic logging for your RoonServer machine, we can see the prebuffer failing when playing back to these Sonos endpoints. The audio stream closes with time remaining in the track, and the Sonos endpoints, sensing no incoming audio, announce to Roon that they’re suspending pending another command. Sonos devices also report to Roon that they’ve lost the playback position.
It’s possible this underpins the symptom you’ve described.
Please share a screenshot of the Sonos network matrix from the Sonos app, as this will help indicate spots for WiFi interference in the setup.
How is your RoonServer machine connected in your above network configuration?
In the Ubiquiti settings, try prioritizing the RoonServer IP address under the QoS tab.
Thanks for response. I think issue predates Sonos new app, but has been worse lately. I am a long time Sonos user, well before I became a Roon user.
I do not know or how to access the Sonos network matrix to refer to. Most Sonos speakers are connected via Ethernet, not used wirelessly. The issue has been worse lately and the affected zone(s) are all Ethernet connected. I have not been listening to the few zones that use wireless.
I have tried all of your suggestions. Problem persists. You are focusing on the wireless environment. I only have one Sonos speaker that uses wireless. I have powered off that speaker. All active speakers are wired ethernet. The wireless speaker has also been disabled in the Roon audio settings. As I write this, roon desktop app said it was no longer playing, but the queue was playing and continued. I dropped a zone, and playback continued but app says select an audio zone. App doesn’t “know” that playback of queue continues.
If problem is not my library, would deleting the app an reinstalling complete, with all new settings fix the issue, maybe?
Did all that was recommended. Deleted Roon and all settings. (Used Revo uninstaller) Installed new version of Roon and reindexed library. Same issues occur: 1. Roon show nothing playing, but prior track is still playing. 2. Roon goes to next track, but prior track still playing. 3. Roon screen leaves album view and goes to prior view before playing (audio setting, or Roon home screen) but track still playing, until it doesn’t. 4. Roon stops playing mid track. 5. one of my speakers (Sonos Era 100) keeps gettting dropped from group (Roon shows Den + 2, then Den +1 when Era dropped).
To reiterate, only hard wired Sonos speakers are active. the one wireless speaker has no been enabled in Roon and is powered off.
Any new ideas? Can send screen shots of some of the behaviors described above.
@Howard_S,
This may seem seem a bit simple but if you press the “Select an Audio Zone” button you should see the zone that is still playing there. If no audio zones were active you would see a different button.
You answered item 1, but real issues are 2, 3, 4, and 5. Earlier tech support looked at logs and was able to provide some specific information. Can you dig deeper?
We have tried to reproduce the behavior you have described on our end, but we have not been able to do so. Looking over your latest log set, it looks like Roon is performing analysis on a lot of tracks in your library, which may cause a temporary performance decrease.
Can you please try to navigate to Roon Settings → Library and set Background and On-Demand audio analysis speed to Throttled? If you try to reproduce this issue when playing back to your System Output zone, are you able to reproduce it there? If you are able to, can you please let us know the exact local time + date + track when the issue occurs, so that we can focus on that specific time in the logging?
Yes, any additional screenshots that you can send would be helpful.
Also, just to clarify here, this issue is happening on the same PC that is running the Roon Server, is this correct? I am asking because we noticed there are two Windows 11 remotes tied to your account and we want to ensure that we are looking over the correct log sets.
Please let us know the above when possible, thanks!
